Take a Deep Dive on the cinematography of of "Barbie". A lot of the shots use virtual production & CGI backgrounds. However, production designers constructed each and every piece of Barbieland as miniatures. The visual effects team scanned those and used them in compositions allowing everyone to collaboratively achieve a cohesive aesthetic and make this world feel real. #cinematography #barbie #filmmaking #virtualproduction #cgi #vfx

Lights, camera, action! 📽 As the 96th #oscars concludes, let's reflect on the innovative device that has brought us the films celebrated today. How did we start seeing pictures in action? I.e. #motion pictures? The vision of two brothers - Auguste and Louis Lumiere invented the cinematograph (back in 1895!) It aimed to create the illusion of moving images by rapidly displaying a sequence of still images. 🎞 What exactly did these projectors need? 👉 #mechanisms to advance film reels and project images onto a screen 👉 a powerful light source, to illuminate the film and project images onto a screen. A #groundbreaking invention that combined a camera, film processing unit, and projector into a single device, resulting in motion pictures. What made it an iconic device? ✅ Designed to be #portable : enabling filmmakers to easily transport and use it for on-location shoots. ✅ Mechanical Operation: operated using a hand-cranked mechanism to advance film reels, project images, and capture motion sequences. The cinematograph #revolutionized film production by making it easier and more affordable to create motion pictures. #cinematography #cinema #cinematographers #motiongraphic #animation #motiondesign #cinemalovers #productdesign #100daysofdesign

If you have any interest in cinematography, lighting, and virtual production, please take some time to peruse cinematographer Steven Holleran's wonderful breakdown of what I consider to be the "new" norm of virtual production. IE, live 3D engine-based environment, camera tracking, etc. all have worked together to create more ideal rear projection work, but let's be real: it's still rear projection, a time-honored practice in filmmaking. The good news for traditional rear projection methodology: all these new tools (led wall environments, more advanced media servers, more advanced color management methods, camera tracking & mapping of 2D plates, on-set image-based lighting controls) have vastly improved the classical technique as well. Daniel Colmenares, my fellow cinematographer and peer at Aputure, conducted this interview with astute insight into the creative storytelling process. https://lnkd.in/g2FVeGar #cinematography #filmmaking #virtualproduction

Want to know why your DIY videos don't look so great? 🤔 Cinematography. Cinematography is the art (and science) that makes the films and shows you love look so attractive. Through composition, lighting, camera angles, lens selection and special effects, we can add a feel, texture and tone to a scene. Even for short brand video interviews (like this setup), we apply the same basic principles used in Hollywood productions to make your project pop! Here's a little breakdown of how we transformed this small garage gym into a warm, inviting interview space. #Cinematography #VideoProduction #Vancouver
