The series is designed to provide unique insights into violent and sexual crimes from experienced forensic clinicians, where we break the offending down through the lens of forensic schema therapy, to illuminate how offences like these occur, and also how we treat those who perpetrate them. In this episode we introduce ourselves and our practice, and begin to analyse the Qld childcare sexual abuse case which is in the press at the moment. In next week’s two-part episode of #Eastenders, Yolande will disclose her abuse to her husband Patrick Trueman. This poignant episode has been crafted in collaboration with Hourglass and the End Violence Against Women Coalition to ensure that the subject-matter is handled with sensitivity and respect for victim-survivors. For older victim-survivors, abuse has a devastating impact on both them and their loved ones. Reporting abuse is never easy. Trauma as a result of the abuse, fear of losing out on vital social links within the community and feelings of shame can result in older victim-survivors feeling unable to report the abuse. This storyline helps illustrate to millions of viewers across the UK that it’s okay to speak up about abuse and that support is out there. It’s a crucial point for Hourglass and the people we support for this storyline to be reaching so many people and helping to remove the stigma around the abuse of older people. Announcing Our New Project, The Lionhearted Podcast! 🎧 What's The Lionhearted Podcast All About? The Lionhearted Podcast spotlights true crime stories of child sexual abuse (CSA), told by the brave badasses who spend their lives fighting the one thing no one wants to talk about - child sexual abuse. And that’s why we call them the lionhearted. They are brave enough to prosecute child sexual abuse, to investigate it, to write and make movies about it, and to change laws. All of this while most people won't talk about it or admit it's even a pervasive problem. CSA is a serious public health problem, and impacts at least 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys. That means over 3.7 million children in the US are exposed to CSA *EVERY YEAR*. As a society, we are clearly are not doing enough to help. But there are a few people who actually are trying to make a change, and we want you to know about them. The reason we’re focusing on the helpers (as Mister Rogers famously implored kids to do) is that they’re the ones who do super-hero-level work despite how dark things can get and importantly, they keep us from becoming vigilantes or not getting out of bed in the morning. Andrea Xiaoli Harner, as the podcast host, has the privilege and honor of interviewing and getting up close and personal with these lionhearted people as they share their unforgettable stories. We hope they will resonate with you. 🚀 Why You Should Listen ⚪ If you are as outraged as we are about children getting hurt and want to do something about it, ⚪ If you want to learn how to protect your kids, or, ⚪ If you love true crime podcasts featuring people on the front lines 🎙 Special Launch Episode To kick things off, our first episode features Stephen Mills, author of Chosen: A Memoir of Stolen Boyhood, an award-winning memoir which chronicles his life’s journey from victim to fighting for justice. This book reads like a movie and will imprint on you forever. We think you’ll see why Stephen and his eloquence were chosen for our special inaugural episode. 🔗 Where Can You Listen? You can listen to The Lionhearted Podcast on all your favorite podcast platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify and more!
