In order to strengthen #Latvia's security, it is planned to create seven new battalions – five reserves and two high-tech battalions – in the National Armed Forces in the coming years. Commander Leonīds Kalniņš has already signed the order to create three new battalions, Latvian Television reported on April 29. “The first battalion is a battalion of high-readiness reserve soldiers as part of the Mechanized Brigade, which in principle will be operational as early as June to ensure retired soldiers from the National Defense Service are included in this reserve battalion,” explained NBS Commander, Lieutenant General Leonīds Kalniņš. There will be a total of five such battalions of high-readiness reserve soldiers. Two high-tech battalions will still be formed – one will be targeted toward electronic warfare and the other will be a dedicated support technology battalion. They will focus on obtaining intelligence so that the right decisions can be made in time. The technology battalion, which will be set up as part of the National Guard, will pool the National Guard's capabilities in cyber defense. Kalniņš said that "until now, the system predicted that reserve soldiers fill the kind of gaps that are needed to secure the units. On the other hand, we can't plan any operations unless we have a stockpiled reserve unit. And it is a process that will end with the creation of five battalions per brigade.” About 1,000 to 1,400 troops are planned for each battalion, Kalniņš said. But high-tech battalions will have between 300 and 600 troops each. The high-readiness reserve soldier is involved in exercises every year over five years, unlike the permanent reserve soldier. "And he has additional requirements for a quick arrival to carry out tasks. Permanent reserve soldiers are allowed by law to be conscripted only once every four years for exercises to refresh their skills,” Kalniņš noted. Defence Minister Andris Sprūds (Progressives) said: “Latvia is protected. Latvia is strengthening its capabilities both in the conventional military and unconventionally so that we are prepared for any crises.” The land mechanized infantry brigade currently has five battalions, while four National Guard brigades have five to six battalions each. https://lnkd.in/dEX2jWmd

Today, the US Army revealed plans to reduce its workforce by 23,000 positions, which accounts for approximately 5% of its total personnel. In response to evolving threats, Army leadership has pinpointed outdated positions to eliminate, aligning with efforts to modernize and develop units capable of tackling future conflicts. In a bid to reshape the future of infantry operations, the United States Marine Corps has launched Phase 2 of its infantry battalion experiment. This phase focuses on introducing new capabilities and additional medical staff to enhance the battalion's effectiveness. The experiment involves 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, based at Twentynine Palms, California. The initial phase of the experiment explored different battalion sizes and incorporated cutting-edge technology while reducing the number of Marines in independent combat operations. Traditionally, infantry battalions consisted of around 965 Marines and sailors, but following Force Design 2030 changes, the Marine Corps aimed to streamline these units. The new battalion model will comprise 811 Marines and 69 Navy support personnel, with a focus on maximizing precision strike, counter-drone, and electronic warfare capabilities. Phase 2 introduces several key enhancements, including the addition of a Navy corpsman to each squad, expanded electronic warfare capabilities, water purification, organic electrical power generation, and the development of unmanned tactical resupply systems. The objective is to create self-sustaining battalions capable of operating in austere environments with limited external support. This initiative reflects the Marine Corps' commitment to evolving its infantry capabilities to effectively counter emerging threats. U.S. Army paratroopers have a lot to think about after exiting the airplane, including how to protect the HMS Manpack radios inside their rucksacks when they hit the ground. That's not all - those rucksacks must provide easy access to these modernized radios, be configured to help balance equipment weight, dissipate heat, and be as comfortable as possible for Soldiers to conduct their missions. Following competitive market research under PdM HMS, a rucksack redesign by Soldier Systems Center Natick, and successful realistic combat testing by the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command's Yuma Test Center, the new and improved Radio Carrier Rucksack (RCR) will be fielded to units receiving Manpacks next year. Without the case, our capabilities in communications and mission readiness would have been greatly reduced. 1969 Vietnam - Echo Recon Platoons Finest: 5-12th Infantry Snipers. "Our job is to reach out and touch someone." - Unamed Sniper Beginning in mid-1968, the infantry battalions within the Brigade began experimenting with a relatively new type of concept that would combine experienced combat personnel, stealth, firepower, and operating independence. The result came to be called, "Echo Recon," or battalion reconnaissance platoons. Designed Echo Company, these units differed from the Brigade LRRP's and Rangers in that the Echo Recon units worked directly under the supervision of their respective maneuver battalions instead of at the Brigade level like the 71st LRRP, F/51st Infantry or M Company, 75th Infantry (Ranger). The Echo Recon platoons were also made up of veteran personnel that had at least six months in the field with a regular line infantry unit. They were not required to be Airborne, Ranger, Recondo, or Special Forces qualified, although many personnel were. Another major difference with the Echo Recon units was that they operated much of the time as "Hunter-Killer" units, engaging the enemy whenever possible and then calling in the rest of the battalion instead of being assigned strictly reconnaissance missions. By 1969, the Echo Recon platoons were operating very smoothly and efficiently, utilizing other specialized personnel such as Brigade-trained snipers which had attended either the 9th Infantry Division sniper school at Dong Tam or a similar version of the school at Camp Frenzell-Jones.
