ANNOUNCING VA’S AI TECH SPRINT FINALISTS FOR AMBIENT DICTATION AND OUTSIDE HEALTH RECORD SYNTHESIS— WE WILL BEAT HEALTH WORKER BURNOUT At HIMSS this past week, I had the chance to announce our AI tech sprint finalists for two very important generative AI use cases that will help Veterans by reducing health care worker burnout. Across the country, health care workers are required to see more patients every year— and that also goes for our health care workers, who are seeing unprecedented Veteran demand for health care because of the PACT Act. So we launched a competitive, AI tech sprint that is comparing solutions for ambient dictation (automatic clinical note scribing after a patient visit) and outside health record synthesis and integration, both with the specific aim of relieving our health care workers from burnout on administrative tasks. VA received more than 200 applications, which were scored by set criteria, resulting in 100 teams from diverse backgrounds being selected for the next phase. Sixty participants then advanced to an output challenge, and we chose 25 finalists. We had almost every major player in health care generative AI apply to this challenge. Every submission was excellent— and it was very difficult to narrow these down. Here are the finalists who rose to the top, in alphabetical order.
