Congrats to Anton DevCo and Jamboree Housing Corporation! We may not have taken home the Gold Nugget this year, but we're thrilled to celebrate the Merit Awards for Finamore Place and Anton Viridian! The PCBC brings together some of the most influential minds in residential development, and it was an honor to be nominated alongside such incredible projects. This year's event was a whirlwind of inspiration and innovation, and we're already looking forward to what's next! #PCBC #CaliforniaBuildingIndustryAssociation #LeadingBuildersofAmerica #MeritAward #CommunityBuilding #AffordableHousing

🥊 Dundee's civic leaders are taking our asks and demands straight to the heart of decision making in Edinburgh and London. In recent weeks and months, I've met with the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Scotland, Alister Jack, First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf and Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Neil Gray MSP. Whilst these meetings have varied in nature, I've pushed Dundee's agenda at every opportunity. It was and is completely unacceptable that Dundee has, so far, not been awarded a significant government(s) intervention such as an investment zone. Since the decision of the UK Government and Scottish Government, we have been working on our follow up asks to ensure Dundee gets it's fair share. We won't stop pushing Dundee's asks at every opportunity. In amongst a range of opportunities, we are asking for tangible support in the form of: 💷 Tax incentives to support regeneration and development. 🎓 Support for a skills and employability hub, with a specific focus on growing areas of the economy. 🛍️ Multi-million pound funding to support capital funding to redevelop surplus retail accomodation and further investment to improve the city centre offer. 🏗️ New models to attract build to rent and enhance the housing offering. 🏡 A scheme to bring innovative carbon neutral social rented projects to the city.

Great panel discussion on a critical topic for firms considering raising capital for the first time.
Jim Gold, Steward Partners CEO, spoke on a panel about taking in minority capital to accelerate growth at the Park Sutton CEO summit yesterday in Chicago. Any questions for Jim on the topic? #WeAreGrowing

If you know what you want to be, then you inevitably become it – that is your punishment, but if you never know, then you can be anything. [Paraphrasing Oscar Wilde] We are not nouns, we are verbs. We are people who do things. Stay with me here… This amazing building in the centre of #Accrington is destined to be a new heritage centre. Currently in the development phase, thanks to National Lottery Heritage Funding, we are exploring what this building could become, steered by the local community. Inclusion, access & participation at the heart. What I love about this project is how heritage isn’t something to be defined, people determine what their hertiage is (The National Lottery Heritage Fund ‘s own words!) The sentiment of the Oscar Wilde quote keeps coming up in various ways throughout our engagement/consultation work. People are asking for inspiration & examples of great things that have been crafted from their hometown, wondering what they can ‘be’... but they are also asking to have a go, to try new things & learn new skills that connect them to the past. They want to not just visit a new place for one thing or one activity, they want a place that changes with the seasons, offers opportunities they haven’t heard of before & a place they can also just exist and feel part of. ‘If you can’t see it, you can’t be it’ The more conversations we have, the more privileged I feel to be the person curating all the feelings and thoughts together. Some exciting updates about our plans for the year ahead & ways to get involved coming soon! Plus sooo much going on in Accrington in general. Words can’t even express how much I love this program. If you haven’t heard of the BLAC Internship Program do your googles. They are creating such an important space for black talent to thrive and be discovered. I wouldn’t have been able this start my career with such momentum without this internship program. If you’re hiring or just looking to support the next generation of advertising talent, look into BLAC. If you’re able donate some time to mentor, join the support network, and pay your success forward. You never know how important it is to support the future until you actually tap in.
Last week we celebrated BLAC's Spring Alumni Homecoming! Thank you to our speakers, program grads Malaika Cesar-Nemorin (BLAC '21), Justina Smith (BLAC '22), and Kai Fields (BLAC '23), along with our special guest, 160over90's Senior Director of Impact & Inclusion, Tyler Bell. Many thanks to Bryon Anderson (BLAC '22 & '23) for so beautifully branding the event, and to our wider alumni community for always showing up for each other. #BLACcommunity #BLACalumni #Blacktalent #advertisingandmarketing

Thank you to Marshal Cherry for agreeing to be featured in this month's Rural Center Alumni Spotlight. Name: Marshall Cherry Job: President and CEO, Roanoke Cooperative Where do you live: Pitt County Where were you born: Bertie County Leadership Class: REDI XVII, 2007 In your opinion, what are the greatest assets of rural NC? The natural beauty of these counties. Many are blessed with scenic landscapes, including fertile farmland, and picturesque rivers such as the Roanoke and the Chowan rivers, which offer opportunities for outdoor activities. In addition, the cultural diversity of counties influenced by Native American, African American, and European heritage. In your opinion, what are the biggest community economic development challenges facing your community? These counties often grapple with limited job opportunities. Creating and sustaining employment options beyond traditional industries like agriculture can be challenging, leading to outmigration of younger populations seeking better economic prospects elsewhere. Also, persistent poverty rates and socioeconomic disparities are prevalent in these counties. What are the best hidden gems in your region? Historic sites and landmarks are prevalent. Many of these counties are rich in history, boasting hidden gems like historic homes, plantations, and sites related to significant events in American history. For example, the Roanoke-Chowan Heritage Center in Hertford County showcases local history and culture, while Historic Halifax in Halifax County offers a glimpse into the state's revolutionary past. Describe the impact that REDI has had on you both personally and professionally. Participation in REDI helped me to cultivate my leadership qualities such as effective communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and strategic thinking. Participation in the program has positively influenced my personal growth and ability to adapt to various situations that I encounter in my personal and work life. What’s the best advice about leadership that you were ever given? The best advice that I was given was to trust and respect others and in turn that would create a reciprocal relationship that will result in them doing the same to me. Also, as a leader I believe in the concept of teamwork and it is always my goal to support my team and invest in their personal growth and development. Tell us about your work and what gives you the greatest pride in your work. The work we're doing at Roanoke Cooperative to address inequities and close gaps in our region gives me the greatest pride. Through managing inclusive utility investment programs, we're actively combating energy burden, a pervasive issue in our communities. Our commitment to building broadband in Northeastern North Carolina is a testament to our dedication to bridging the digital divide, aiming to provide access to all member-owners by 2025.
