Despite how much I crank the volume on my headphones (🔊 and I do!), I’ll never experience music like most people – that’s what a lifetime of severe hearing impairment gets me. 🎵 My perception of the world is defined by absence, which is why I’m mindful of how brand (or any kind of) communication works at different levels. If you’re looking for ways to challenge your brand identity or messaging, consider it from the POV of those who experience the world differently than you. Does your video still deliver without sound? Does your #branding work without words or color? Does your message ring true without, for instance, adverbs? By taking away things you take for granted, you might discover a new way of seeing yourself and unlock a fresh perspective that could enhance the impact of your #communication. From absence can come everything. 💪 #BrandIdentity #Inclusion #Accessibility #Empathy #Diversity #Creativity

Advocating for Creators of Color Behind the Lens In my journey championing creators of color in the visual arts, I've noticed a few key challenges they face: 📉 Underrepresentation in job opportunities. 🔍 Brands struggling to discover and connect with these talented individuals. 🚫 Limited active inclusion by brands/media outlets in talent searches. ✨ A wealth of high-quality talent exists within this group of artists. 🌐 The need for a diverse storytelling lens is more critical than ever. We are here to amplify their voices, work and perspectives in the visual storytelling landscape. Let's bridge the gap together. 💪🏽💡 #RepresentationMatters #DiverseVoices #ChampioningCreators

People become what they fear and hate. people become what they think say declaring the reality they live in people become what they do after reacting to the response received. people don't change because of fear and hatred. let me fill you in, what you hate is the unknown possibility of discovering that it is really meaningless. you need a blank canvas to paint, by painting you actively realize what you visualize. communication is that canvas that by the tongue can either destroy or create. you are the wielders of that instrument. those without tongues, still do communicate just a little differently, those who are blind or visually impaired see clearly through hearing, those who are deaf need braille to feel to understand the messages being written, those without limbs, hands and arms speak. we all have limitations, so what do you fear and hate?

Getting to the real gold of someone's purpose is exciting. As humans, at our best, we have an innate desire to help others. Sometimes it takes asking the right questions to truly understand someone's vision. Recently, a client said "it felt like he knew what I wanted better than I did." Gently challenging is one of our values because visual identity can be superficial. But if the meaning behind it is rooted in purpose, it will help you attract the people you want to help. So, what's the true meaning behind your goals? #PurposeDrivenBusiness #BrandPurpose #BarbaCreative

The process of uncovering a Costume Design project is a rich path to understanding the work and developing new skills and expanding open minds; as cultural workers costume designers, teachers and lecturers, researchers... we are all moving on the same road back and forth both ways to grow our perspectives. Opening the senses, analysing, observing, being focused and attentive to the details, to the visual speeches, feeling it. Semiotics is a way of better understanding our role, it's a way of understanding human visual speech and a way of being aware. Times change, but visual communication is always a powerful tool.

I love the work of Es Devlin, designer extraordinaire! She has a beautiful way of describing what resonance means to her: "Resonance in human communication relies on precisely attuning to the wavelength of your audience." The feeling of resonance sometimes happens when I'm on stage giving a talk. It's like an invisible pathway of emotion and meaning connecting me with the audience. Where and how do you experience resonance in your life?
