This article, written by Brian Schaps, highlights the importance for licensed design professionals in Louisiana, such as architects and engineers, to understand the five-year peremption period established by law, which can extinguish claims against them for professional negligence or breach of contract. Brian further discusses a recent court decision holding that the peremption period can commence upon the completion of the design professional’s services rather than commencing after the acceptance of the project, potentially enabling more design professionals to successfully assert this defense to untimely claims. TO STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS in my network (or beyond): a picture and a question from a good friend. The question: "Does anyone know the architectural logistic of these double arches? Were they built together? Do they serve an engineering need, or are they purely aesthetic?" [btw, I suspect a typo: perhaps "the architectural rationale, rather than logistic.
