What's it like working with a team to produce Let's Build #architecture events all year? From graphics, social media, and copy to speakers, venues, food & drink, sponsors, and more, it’s a whirlwind! Lockdown got us comfy working solo even with a remote team (in the background kind-of), but now we're still itching for face-to-face, in-person human interactions. Since it ended, we still crave in-person human interactions and connections. For most of us, the shift back to the office shows it, and is (still) teaching us how to juggle being in-person and working with a remote team online/ others working-from-home. It's like we forgot how to socialize, but now we're relearning! Being in a team of 10, 15, 20? It’s no walk in the park—dealing with different personalities and work styles can be tough. Collaborating with our team (some in-person and remote) is interesting. But, we thrive on it, producing top-notch events every year. With sciences R&D developments increasingly migrating to amenitized urban areas, more and more opportunities for architectural innovation are being uncovered. The symposium “Hybrid Urban Factory: Creating the Industrial Community of the Future,” that I convened at the Yale School of Architecture on November 9-10 is available on our Youtube channel: https://lnkd.in/dcMKCDjx The participants from New York, New Haven, Hartford, Brussels, and Milan, included a keynote by Nona Yehia of Vertical Harvest Farms, and speakers Bram Aerts, Kristiaan Borret, Reginald Canal, Brian Coleman, Giovanna Fossa, Abby Hamlin, Andrei Harwell, Rob Lane, Dieter Leyssen, Charles Negaro, Susan Wiviott, Laura Wolf-Powers, and ward verbakel. They presented concepts and described collaborative projects that go beyond siloed professions in urban manufacturing and instead create hybrid combinations where 1+1 =3 for people of all abilities.  Many thanks to Dean Deborah Berke for her support of this conference and to the staff at the school for the coordination. "A new national urban heat observatory will make our cities more liveable, sustainable and climate resilient," reports Architecture Design magazine. In January 2020, Western Sydney reached 48.9°C (almost halfway to boiling point). The climate crisis is changing our cities and we must adapt the way we live, says Associate Professor Lan Ding from UNSW’s School of Built Environment. “Urban heat is a major challenge for the future of Australian cities. Understanding its impact and developing appropriate intervention strategies is a critical and urgent task,” says Associate Professor Lan Ding from UNSW’s School of Built Environment.
