I had the pleasure of writing an article in Architecture Today sharing my thoughts on what certification really means in material specification today and how we can work together collectively to ensure sustainable and ethical material choices for a better built environment 🪵 🏗️ 💚 THISS Studio
Can we trust in timber? Daniel Pope, architect at THISS Studio asks what certification really means in material specification as he discusses the importance of responsible #timber #specification, highlighting the complexities of certification systems, prompting a critical reevaluation of sourcing practices and verification methods. 🌿 Today, I had the privilege of participating in a seminar focused on the sustainability of structures. 🏗️ The importance of staying updated on this topic cannot be overstated. In an era where environmental concerns are at the forefront of engineering and design, understanding the intricacies of sustainable construction is crucial. During the seminar, we delved into various aspects of sustainability in structures, from materials to carbon footprint-efficient designs. It's remarkable how some changes in design can make a significant impact on reducing a structure's environmental footprint. As a member of the BASK, I can't stress enough how valuable this knowledge is for us when making engineering design decisions. Sustainability isn't just a buzzword; it's a fundamental principle that guides our work. By staying updated on sustainability trends and best practices, we can ensure that our designs align with the latest environmentally friendly standards. This not only benefits the planet but also our clients, as sustainable structures often result in lower long-term operating costs and enhanced overall value. Incorporating sustainability into our design process also allows us to be more innovative. It challenges us to think creatively and consider alternative materials and techniques. It's not just about doing the right thing for the environment; it's about pushing the boundaries of what's possible in engineering and design. So, let's continue to embrace sustainability in our work at BASK. It's not just a responsibility; it's an opportunity to make a positive impact on the world while delivering exceptional design solutions to our clients. I want to express my gratitude for the impeccable organization by CTE Collegio dei Tecnici della Industrializ. Edilizia. I'd also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Engineer Claudio Failla for extending the invitation to this enlightening event. Their dedication to promoting sustainable construction practices is commendable, and the seminar wouldn't have been possible without their efforts. 🌍💡 #SustainableDesign #EngineeringExcellence
