Top 5 rules for artists:
-
I make a little selection of rules, that can work for beginners too!
-
#1
Don’t compare yourself too much to others.
You can compare your work and your skills to others but don’t stay too long in this position. Sure it is good to have an eye on what other artists do and being inspired by them it’s great but you should also focus on yourself and your personal growth.

#2
Don’t pay for a show, no matter what don’t pay for a show, you are the one with the gift of making art and have something to show to the world. A show is something for you to be a part of, not to pay to be in. There is also salon and art fair where you have to pay for a wall but this is sometimes a useful exception.

#3
Don’t be afraid of rejection, I know that you have probably been rejected by galleries or other types of institutions when you presented your work but this is normal. Rejections are common and it’s a necessary lesson, these types of institutions have their own art direction, their own type of artists that may not match with what you do and it’s thats ok. Try to ask them some advice and directions for your artist path.
-
#4
Make what you want, don’t be guided by the market, or what you sold in the past or what the critics say, try to improve in your own way and find yourself by experimenting with things until you find something that represents your identity. Let yourself be the guide.
-
#5
Collaborate with other artists - try to collaborate with other types of artists, singers or scientists etc that can bring you outside your own aesthetic. Going out from your bubble will help you to grow and to find more information about how to improve your own art. I also advise to try residencies.
