Have you ever wondered how being in a super competitive corporate world, solving world problems all the time, you are getting very little time to appreciate the artistic creativity around you. We all are born creative, but our work profiles demanded so much from us that or left brain sometimes gets dominating over our right brain. Well I was at a holiday party at a friend's house and we had some discussion on how a not-so-creative person support another creative person in the process, hence I decided to pen down a few thoughts in this article. https://lnkd.in/g3DwJjiU #creativecommunity #creativeentrepreneur #supportcreativity #supporteachother

Can you learn to be #creative? 🎨 I believe you can! I don't necessarily mean making a painting, writing a poem or creating a song. I mean finding a new perspective, discovering a novel solution or explaining something differently. I was listening to an interview with UK Jazz artist a few months ago along these lines that struck a chord. And then I got a book out the library that explored these ideas more. My three main reflections from this are: 💡Creativity isn't inate, it's not something we're born with, but something we practice and learn. 🔁Successful artists try and fail many times before creating the final product that articulates that message. It's a mindset that takes effort. 🧠Paying full attention to your environment and the inputs we receive is essential for enabling creativity. Appreciating different perspectives is key. We can help cultivate creativity in ourselves and in the people we work with. We need to make it ok to try and fail, and create space to think things through.

10 reminders every Tortured Creatives Department needs to hear: 1. Finding your unique creative voice? That's just the first step. 2. Developing artistic discipline is just as important as developing talent. 3. Protect your time and energy like a ravenous mama bear protects her cubs. 4. What you think is creative genius may seem stupid to everyone else at first. 5. But what everyone else thinks is stupid might just be your genius idea. 6. Collect inspiration constantly or your creative well will run dry. Dry wells create dust, not art. 7. There's no such thing as a truly original idea, just brilliant curation of existing sparks. 8. You'll never produce your masterpiece while comparing yourself to others. 9. But you'll never push yourself without some level of creative jealousy, either. 10. There's a difference between being creatively satisfied and being complacent. Learn it. What’s #11?

What so we mean when we say “creativity”? The mind, almost always, conjures up images of painters and poets, designers and musicians, writers and actors. This, essentially conflates the creative mediums with creativity -mediums that help express creativity. There's no creativity when a painter paints endless reproductions of someone else’s work, is there? Nor is creativity needed when a musician aces someone else’s composition. That’s because creativity isn’t about the medium — it’s about creating something new. Viewed with this lens, it’s still true that many individuals working in creative mediums are “creative.” But so are many programmers, marketers, entrepreneurs, teachers, and people across every job title. In effect: if you’re coming up with new solutions to problems, you are a creative. There's no work more valuable than that.

Ever felt that lingering sense of not quite fitting in, even among like-minded souls? The paradox is real, especially for us creatives who harbor an innate longing for belonging. It's a curious dance, isn't it? Recently, I delved into this topic & discovered that this sentiment resonates widely among fellow creators. Reflecting on my own journey, I, like many, embraced the title of "creative" later in life. The creative spirit seems to intertwine w/a yearning for belonging. Perhaps, it's the nature of our imaginative minds that, while crafting beautiful universes, struggle to find space w/in the conventional. As we navigate this paradox, let's consider its roots. Were our younger selves entangled in societal expectations, obscuring the recognition of our creative sparks? Did the world inadvertently cast a shadow on our unique perspectives? It's a complex tapestry of introspection. The journey to belonging often begins w/acknowledging & embracing our creativity, a self-discovery with no fixed timeline. For many, it unfolds in chapters—some bold and expressive, others subtle and hesitant. Each page reveals a facet of our creative selves. Now, the magic unfolds. By sharing our stories, by unraveling the threads of our creative narratives, we connect w/others who've felt the same way. This act of sharing becomes a bridge to belonging, paving the way for collective understanding. To my fellow late bloomers, to those who've felt the pangs of creative solitude, let's turn the page together. And here's a creative tool to aid our journey: Self portraiture. Self-portraiture is a journey of self-discovery, of finding belonging in the vast landscape of creativity. 🎨Grab your FREE Self-Portrait Tips to elevate your creativity- LINK: https://lnkd.in/g_TmUPkn Let's create a space where each narrative contributes to a larger tapestry—a testament to the diverse and beautiful spectrum of the creative experience. Embrace your uniqueness; it's the brushstroke that adds vibrancy to the canvas of our creative community. . . . . . . #CreativeJourney #Belonging #LateBloomers #EmbraceYourUniqueStory #selfportrait #Selfportraiture

Sometimes words land just right, even those over 100 years old. Know this poem by William Butler Yeats about a Creative who put his work out and had it rejected? To a Friend Whose Work Has Come to Nothing by Willam Butler Yeats Now all the truth is out, Be secret and take defeat From any brazen throat, For how can you compete, Being honor bred, with one Who were it proved he lies Were neither shamed in his own Nor in his neighbors' eyes; Bred to a harder thing Than Triumph, turn away And like a laughing string Whereon mad fingers play Amid a place of stone, Be secret and exult, Because of all things known That is most difficult. _ Summary. Yeats suggest that once the truth is revealed, the friend should accept defeat gracefully, even if the criticism comes from those who may not be sincere or honorable. Yeats goes on to contrasts the honorable nature of his friend with those who are dishonest and yet face no social repercussions. It implies that competing with such individuals is futile because societal values may not always reward integrity. The friend is encouraged to turn away from the pursuit of conventional success and to endure like a resilient string being played in a harsh, unfeeling environment. The poem concludes by urging the friend to find a quiet joy and pride in their resilience, as enduring failure with dignity is one of the hardest things to do. Relevance to modern Creatives: 1 • Gracefully accept rejection - recognizing that not all criticism is fair or reflective of one’s true value. 2 • Integrity vs. Success - it is important to stay true to one’s values, even if it means not achieving conventional success. 3 • Resilience - creatives must continue their work with passion and perseverance, even when the environment is unkind or indifferent. 4 • Private Triumph - Yeats' advice to "be secret and exult" is particularly relevant in an age where public validation (e.g., social media likes, shares) often dictates a creative’s sense of worth. Finding private joy and satisfaction in one’s work, despite external rejection, is a powerful and liberating mindset. Creativity knows no age limit. While many may experience a burst of innovation in their 20s and 30s, creativity can thrive with adaptability and resilience. Drawing from many experiences, staying curious, and connecting with a supportive community are essential. Prioritizing self-care and finding meaning in one's work also sustain creativity. Ultimately, creativity has no shelf life—it's a continual exploration and growth journey.
What’s the shelf life of a creative? I reckon it’s ten years. Most great artists do their pioneering work in their first decade.* But that’s not much of a career. And in creative entrepreneurship, you need to sustain a constant flow of brilliance to keep your company afloat. How do you turn ten years into thirty – or forty? Firstly, you have to understand the philosophical side of what creativity is. Where it comes from and the purpose it serves in civilisation. Then you have to grasp the fact that as a creative, you’re a transmitter. You’re absorbing information all the time. The best understand how to recognise inspiration, then redirect it into their work. Understand the value of your ego. Knowing who you are, what you believe and how you feel is fundamentally important. And don’t become a cynic. What’s your tip for creative longevity? #longevity #careers #creativity #businessofcreativity *The Rolling Stones haven’t released a good album since the 1970s ended. But then, they haven’t needed to. ------------------------------- Subscribe to my newsletter for a weekly creative boost: https://lnkd.in/eRYUdzVj
