She serves as Climate Justice Program Director with The Lands Council, a well regarded nonprofit in the Spokane area that promotes environmental causes, is Chair of the Spokane NAACP Environmental Justice Committee, and First Vice Chair of the City of Spokane's Sustainability Action Subcommittee's Steering Committee. ➡️ Amanda Fields is the Immigrants’ Rights Managing Attorney at CAIR-LA. Before joining CAIR, she lived in Spokane, Washington, where she helped clients in immigration law, family law, and nonprofit formation. She was an active leader in the Asian Pacific Island Coalition of Spokane (now called ACL Spokane), the Chair of the Board of Directors for Refugee Connections of Spokane, member of the Spokane Human Rights Commission, and member of the Spokane Ethics Commission. ➡️ Iman Munawar is a Pakistani American from Spokane. She is currently a Senior at Eastern Washington University, where she is receiving a double major in Political Science Pre-Law and International Affairs, with a minor in Gender and Women Studies. She served as the Executive Vice President of the Associated Students of Eastern Washington University and is a member of the campus Strategic Planning Committee and Student Disciplinary Board. ➡️ Imraan Siddiqi is an advocate, nonprofit leader and prominent voice for justice in the American Muslim community. In 2011, Imraan joined the CAIR-Arizona Board of Directors to help re-build the chapter to serve Muslims locally. Under his leadership, the organization was able to grow from zero to three full-time staff by 2015 and became the full-time Executive Director of CAIR-AZ. He is currently the Executive Director for CAIR Washington. She is the proprietor of a brand of Thai sausage made in Chiang Mai, and has lived above her factory her entire life. The film depicts Nin at her home in Chiang Mai, watching over her factory while interacting with her family in America through technology. While her relationship with her children - all now American with their own kids - is strained by distance, she takes on the role of mother figure for the workers and caretakers that live and work around her. https://www.yainindoc.com/ LIQUOR STORE DREAMS (85mins) is an intimate portrait of two Korean American children of liquor store owners who set out to bridge generational divides with their immigrant parents in Los Angeles. Growing up a daughter of Korean immigrants who ran a liquor store in a South LA neighborhood, director So Yun Um decided that what she wanted to do more than anything else, was become a filmmaker, much to the bemusement of her father. 🔔 Submission Deadline Extended to March 15, 2024 for We Are Made of Stories exhibit ‼️ 📣 Calling all Asian and Asian American young artists! You have two more weeks to submit your art and story and be part of our month-long exhibit for Asian American Heritage Month! 🎨 Art is a powerful way to tell stories. We are encouraging young artists (recommended age 15-25) to share intergenerational stories through art. These can be tales from their own experiences, of their elders, or of other members in our Asian/Asian American community. Maybe it is a story about a grandmother’s immigration, an uncle opening a business, or an auntie’s journey as an adoptive mother. Woven together, these narratives of achievements, struggles, mental health, and life journeys make our community bond stronger. Submissions may include 2D, 3D, or performance/time-based medium. Selected pieces will be on display at the Spokane Public Library (Central) for Asian American Heritage Month in May 2024. One of the unique experiences about being a young adult, especially one who has moved out of the home or has moved towards aspects of independence, is that they realize how much they miss home cooking rooted in their culture. We are so excited to collaborate with amazing Asian chefs around Spokane to bring this program, connecting cooks with young adults (recommended ages 18-25) to explore culture through food. 🔍 Community Health Assessment We are hoping to connect with as many Asians and Asian Americans in Spokane County as possible to learn about our community’s diversity, strengths, needs, well-being (mental, social, spiritual, emotional, physical), and lived experiences. We are looking for participants to take our Community Health Assessment. Eligibility: ✅ Identifies as Asian and/or Asian American ✅ Age 18 and up ✅ Living in Spokane County Those who are eligible may take the survey online at bit.ly/CHA-en.
