Thrilled to announce that the brand new Jupiter app is now available for everyone to use. In alignment with Jupiter's mission, aimed at improving the financial wellness of our users, we realised that it was time for us to mature into a bolder, cleaner, consistent, confident app that keeps our users, and the experience that gives them better control over their money in the centre. It took 6 months to re-build 800+ screens; and 10,000+ man-hours to make it release ready. More than 100 brilliant minds (20 designers, 4 copywriters, 30 engineers, 20 Quality Analysts, 20 product managers) came together onto one team to make this possible. It's surreal to believe that one of the biggest project in the history of Jupiter has reached its successful completion. I loved Evernote. It lacked two significant thing: ❌ Collecting relevant (!) ideas by itself. ❌ Curating ideas by quality. Well, it has no LLM back then. Now we have it, so it's time to re-build that great concept. It's Figma time. (Good news - it's so much easier to design the app now than back in days, when Evernote launched!) I decided to save time both for design and development, so let's proceed with the next: 1. Tailwind UI 2. Chrome extension as an app 3. Some features will be displayed but still to be delivered down the road. I need just to validate the app idea, so it should take less than 2 weeks to deliver. Priority - design it and ship it for a few tens of LinkedIn creators for review. UI doesn't matter in this iteration. No need to build SaaS either. I need to design the features for the first iteration only. The ones I think are the most important / relatively easy to ship. They are: ✅ Collecting ideas. (Top priority) Best bet. Takes only my own LinkedIn Activity and the ones I added manually ✅ Editing ideas. (Second priority) Easy to ship, easy to design, matters a lot. AI won't work perfectly itself - it's only about human-AI collaboration. ✅ Converting ideas into content drafts. (To cover more of the users' workflow) The latest feature is anything but unique. A lot of other tools do that (including ChatGPT iself) But it's not a reason not to implement it for this specific workflow. Also there are 1 Easter egg for better UX. (you can notice it in the screen) P.S. UX still matters! UX matters since the very beginning. It has to be "perfect" before we ship it. But we all know that a design piece is never really finished. So instead of keeping my ideas hidden away forever, I've finally decided to update and create a proper final version of my own website to share with the world - after a loooong period of sketching, drafting, pixel-perfecting, and throwing the entire thing in the trash. How to assess the effectiveness or quality of UI? Metrics are great when available, but what about new products without an audience or accompanying analytics? This question, early in my career, led me to develop a functional formula, effective for over 20 years across various products, from apps to TVOS and games. First articulated in 2013 during a UI/UX and product design seminar, this formula has evolved alongside the industry and my experience: What-How-Why What: What story do we tell, what message do we convey? How: What means do we use? Which medium? A poster, a series of posters, an app, maybe a web service, a site, or even a game. And in what tone (both visual and linguistic) do we want to tell this story? Why: What’s our goal? What action do we want the user to take?  Is it a single goal, like subscribing to a service or buying a product, or multiple objectives - completing a tutorial, engaging in several battles, purchasing or renewing a battle pass, etc.? Answers to these three questions outline the final product. The What gives us a broad task, the How sets specific, practical boundaries, and the Why refines it to a level measurable by metrics such as “effective/ineffective”. The How determines the style. The conversational tone a large corporation uses doesn't suit a small indie studio. A game’s language isn't appropriate for a utilitarian app like weather or news. And the language of a cooperative shooter doesn't mesh with an intimate, touching narrative. The Why defines solutions for managing attention, accentuating elements, establishing navigation, and other functional aspects. And these won't exist in a vacuum — they must be selected from options compatible with the tone established by the How. It often works in reverse too. Sometimes, after refining functional aspects, we may need to reevaluate available solutions from the How, as they may not all align with the necessities outlined in the Why. Each answer yields a certain set. The intersection of these sets reveals a spectrum of viable and solid solutions. In practice, a fourth question emerges: When – when should our creation be released? This timing likely exerts a retroactive influence on the solutions framed by the initial three questions, further narrowing the realm of possibilities. Good interface or not? The answer is determined by the responses to all three questions. If we've convincingly addressed each, validated our hypotheses with metrics, and met our deadlines, then it’s a job well done. This approach effectively separates the essential from superficial, often obscuring details: should we change the button color, shift it a few pixels right, or “play with fonts”. So, if your boss assesses your work not through the lens of responses to these questions but rather with feedback like "Why is this white? Let's make it red" - know that firstly, there's a response to that, and secondly - it might be time to change your team or company.

In the world of user experience, the language we choose matters. Notational bias, the subtle influence of our language choices, can significantly impact user interactions. As UX writers, it's crucial to be mindful of the words we use, as they shape user perceptions and behaviors. Carefully considering how certain terms might carry different connotations for various users will empower us to create the clearest and most inclusive experiences. Here are 3 examples of notational biases that can sneak into our copy and change the experience for our users: 1. Gendered Pronouns: Bias: Using gendered pronouns like "he" or "his" as default in instructions or examples can unintentionally exclude or alienate users who don't identify with those pronouns. Neutral Alternative: Opt for gender-neutral pronouns (e.g., "they" or "their") or rephrase sentences to avoid gender assumptions. For example, instead of saying, "When the user logs in, he will see his profile," you could say, "Users will see their profiles upon logging in." 2. Cultural References: Bias: Incorporating culturally specific references or idioms may resonate well with some users but may confuse or isolate others who are not familiar with those cultural nuances. Inclusive Alternative: Choose universal language or provide context when using cultural references. For instance, rather than saying, "It's as easy as pie," you might say, "It's as easy as a simple task." 3. Physical Ability Assumptions: Bias: Phrasing that assumes a user's physical ability, such as "click here" or "hover over this," may be problematic for individuals with different abilities, like those using screen readers or other assistive technologies. Inclusive Alternative: Use descriptive and action-oriented language.
