It was a great pleasure to come back to California at the occasion of #RSAC where I took part in a keynote panel moderated by J. Trevor Hughes on AI governance together with Barbara Cosgrove, Ruby Zefo and Emma Redmond. I also had the great pleasure to meet students at Stanford University and many other stakeholders working in the fields of data protection and cybersecurity, and to take part in an IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals knowledgeNet. Many thanks to J. Trevor Hughes and Caitlin Fennessy for having facilitated some of the meetings and Isabelle Vereecken for having accompanied me!

💬 Discover the Privacy Symposium pre-conference interview with Anu Talus, Chair of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) 💬 In her interview, Dr. Talus shares strategic priority areas of the EDPB: "This spring, the EDPB will adopt its new strategy, the very first since I became EDPB Chair. The strategy sets out the EDPB’s priorities for the next 4 years and charts the direction the EDPB will take. Enforcement and boosting enforcement cooperation will remain a top priority for the EDPB in the years to come. DPAs are using the enforcement capacities granted to them by the GDPR to their full extent, both at national and cross-border level. The EDPB’s focus today is on delivering results within the current legislative framework.” She also states: “As Finnish Commissioner and EDPB Chair, I notice every day that there is greater awareness among individuals about their rights – organisations receive requests to exercise individuals’ rights and DPAs receive more complaints than in 2018. We can also see this from the public debate on new technologies, such as ChatGPT, and its implications for data subject rights. In addition, we observe that large fines have an impact. Not only do they make headlines, they also work as a deterrent to malpractices by controllers. They show that there is no way around the GDPR and that if you want to do business in Europe, you need to play by the rules.
