There is real excitement around #microbiome science. The focus on microbiome-based products and services is escalating, along with diffused hype. Yet, the true significance of the impact a holistic approach to microbiome-centric exploitations could have on preserving a broader healthy ecosystem has to be characterized.  This was the inspiring realization behind the work I am sharing; with fundamental scientific contributions from Barbara Simionati and Sonia Facchin, it will spark a conversation across different fields. The “#MicrobiomeOneHealth” model proposed here generalizes the “#OneHealth” concept. It shows how microbiome-centric integrated health strategies bring innovative solutions to advance scientific understanding and promote practical applications that benefit the ecosystem. Moreover, the focus should be on the interface between humans, animals, and the environment, where new cross-sectorial collaborations and workforce/expertise are required. #Nutrition is singled out as a driver of health and the #food system for its commercial exploitation. Remarkably, the interaction with #pets, specifically #dogs, must be recognized as a household untapped larger animal model to improve human and animal well-being at the interface of humans and animals.
