We're tackling something new (and hard!) at Curio! ❗❗❗ Our team and work have moved onto a new phase - from solutions-focused to user-focused. We realized through our work with patients and caregivers that emotional suffering, especially when dealing with a serious health condition, is not merely about emotions. It is about logistics and overwhelm. So we've started tackling the problem directly with digital tools supported by clinical knowledge. We are working on practical solutions to improve health, cut costs, and create a better system for those currently far underserved. Exactly when you feel like you are too busy for a 1:1 is exactly the time you need it. I get such energy out of growth/mentorship calls. WellSky Careforum – 3 key things I learned Hospital Length of Stay is Growing. After I posted about this last week, hospitals continue to confirm it’s true – LOS is growing, even after adjusting for acuity. “It’s not that we’re seeing sicker patients,” shared one large provider organization. Tools like Qventus, Inc and LeanTaaS offer LOS insights that can enable action across specific populations, like surgical cases. Technology enables caregivers to operate at the top of their license. Innovative technology can further bolster talent recruitment and reduce burnout by eliminating repetitive administrative tasks. We are thrilled to share key takeaways from Erfan Karim, Executive Director of ExpressCare at NYC Health + Hospitals, at our sponsored health equity panel at the American Hospital Association’s 2023 Leadership Summit. Erfan highlighted the importance of patient trust, community involvement, and embedding health equity at all levels of the health system. “From our system perspective, [health equity] is a process,” he emphasized, underscoring the importance of investing in the next generation of leaders and providers to reflect the needs of the community. A key theme was leveraging technology to increase access and improve both patient and provider experience. Erfan’s team focuses on enhancing telehealth and remote patient monitoring to expand care access points for their community, reaching elderly populations and individuals without internet access or tech literacy.
