Do you have a no D!£%head policy?
Turns out it’s good for business.
Yesterday I had the privilege of listening to the Chair of the Welsh Rugby Union Richard Collier-Keywood talk eloquently about the important Welsh cultural asset he is now responsible for and the need for it to serve all stakeholders i.e. benefit society beyond the bottom line.
In business it’s known as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) which emerged as a concept in the 1960s.
Back then it was seen as an altruistic means of doing more with a business than just making money, but it was assumed it would involve sacrificing profit to achieve it.
The growing evidence shows this is not the case.
Being environmentally responsible, inclusive and serving of all stakeholders (customers, employees, investors, the environment and wider society) builds a strong brand, customer engagement, profit and also investment opportunities.
The All Blacks have an NDH (No D!£%head) policy.
They clean their own dressing rooms, carry their own bags and essentially show humility, accountability and a recognition of all the stakeholders in their organisation.
For me, corporate social responsibility boils down to common sense, respect and humility.
It’s good to see those leading our national game going forward aspire to the same ethos.
And at a time of such high attrition in business in general, would it not be best to have a smart business model that ensures that everyone in the eco system is incentivised to see the venture succeed?

I’ll enter the New York Festivals Purpose Awards any day of the week.
A business with purpose is great.
But what’s even greater is the purpose of business:
To benefit the world around us.
That’s not altruism. It’s interdependence.
Because what’s good for people, for the environment, for ecosystems, for communities —that’s good for business.
We’ve forgotten that, somewhere along the way. And it’s time to remember.
Our chaotic, unpredictable world needs help now more than ever.
And business has more power to influence positive change than any government, any NGO, any grassroots campaign.
Purposeful business practices, acting ethically, focusing on sustainability—these aren’t add-ons.
They’re integral to the bottom line.
Business can make money by solving the world's problems.
I focus on logic and magic.
And mainstreaming sustainability across audiences.
Not just to create a business with purpose.
But because the greater purpose of business ACTIVATED is everything.

"Reverie: Low Pass Filter-Based Switch Buffer Sharing for Datacenters with RDMA and TCP Traffic" at NSDI 2024.
We tackle the complex issue of buffer sharing between RDMA and TCP by first unifying the ingress and egress (conflicting) views in to a single shared pool and second by a low pass filter approach to maximize burst absorption.

I would love to see more representation and sessions for Quality Enginnering and Game Development. Myself and 1-2 other women held Braindates for Quality Engineering , one other woman held a Braindate representing Gaming. These are male dominated spaces, especially the Gaming Industry. Sharing knowledge like this could help more women choose these fields.
Soft skills are extremely important. Often, soft skills can help move you forward in your career. It would be amazing to see sessions on the importance of soft skills, or how soft skillls can help advance your career.
GHC is over, but this conversation is not. Our first step toward creating a plan for change is to listen, and we are in the process of developing a collaborative avenue for GHC attendees to share more so we can do just that. Throughout this process, we will be transparent. We hear you. We see you.
