While acknowledging the empowering nature of women's bold choices, the editorial also confronts the persistent gender disparities within the fashion industry's leadership landscape.   Specifically, while "women drive up to 80 percent of global purchasing decisions, a mere 12.5 percent of fashion CEOs are female," underscoring the need for greater gender diversity at the executive level.   However, amidst these challenges, Page and O'Neill maintain an optimistic outlook, citing encouraging signs of progress. Powerful piece calling out that even in an industry known for elevating women in leadership and embracing #femalefounders, there is still significant work to do. It’s not a risk to invest in ambitious women. In fact, businesses owned by us perform better financially, have higher success rates, greater innovation, and a deeper understanding of customer needs. A small number of women in executive roles in any industry is a concern, but particularly so for retail, where women dominate purchasing decisions. Ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March, Drapers have published their annual survey of fashion retail companies listed on the FTSE and Aim markets. The results show a mixed picture of improvement on female representation in the boardroom but a reduction in the number of women in executive leadership roles. Our industry has made a lot of strides in opening doors to female-owned and female-led companies. A few years ago, a LedBetter study found that personal care was the leading industry in female executive representation. Unfortunately, there is still work to do, as that percentage was still a measly 29%. We can do better.
