Business Development Manager⎜Claes Digital ✨ "Past, Present, & Future"

You’ve heard it before: "Things will get better soon" and "Trust the process." Recently, while talking to mentors about their success, the theme has been embracing failure and learning from mistakes. Maybe it’s desperation or teen angst finally dying, but this time it stuck. So, I’ll give you a little hope for hump day (I hate and love myself for that one 😉). A dear friend in Memphis began his career after losing his greatest love - playing basketball. I still remember watching it all crumble when his wrist shattered during that championship game. After taking some time, Micah decided to work at his dad's screen printing business, learning and using that income to fund his dreams. Instead of giving up, he chose to trust the process. It's been a long and difficult path, but today, Micah owns his own brand—Sputnik. - So, yeah, it flippin’ sucks. It’s going to suck for a minuteeee. - But it’s time to embrace the suck, trust the process, and JUST DO IT ALREADY. Tell me your "Started From the Bottom Now We're Here" story. 🤘 Want to check out some of Micah’s stuff for yourself? Click the link below. I’m obsessed with this sweatshirt, “Hoop Dreams Never Die.” https://lnkd.in/gRsGJjRF

Oh jeez. This hits. So, I was homeschooled by a school who sent VHS and DVD lessons from middle school onward. I had no friends, no colleagues, and my parents were deeply hands off. My entire life was sitting in my room on a laptop doing classwork, only really talking in chat rooms and message boards. I was never given any guidance on what kind of future I could lead. I never had anyone tell me how they were proud of my progress. And when I entered college (Communications, since I didn't know how) it was a culture shock. My ADHD and my autism both flared and really made me question what I was supposed to be doing. The lack of guidance or understanding of any kind, even from my university was astounding. Then I got an internship doing QA for a local game developer. For the first time I had a team of people tell me I was doing a great job, finding issues, detailing them, discussing possible fixes and theoretical edge cases. This convinced me to grab my master's degree in IT Management, then I became a professional QA. Now I'm job hunting again to find my next QA position. But I'm doing far better than when I started. That's my story.

Sometimes a reroute is a path that can also light us up. We just have to determine how much of that road we'll be looking over our shoulder at the way we didn't get to go, rather than looking towards what's ahead. I had to learn this lesson this year too, Hillary. But I'm *so* excited about what's ahead ✨

Hillary Brown I’ve been embracing the suck for the better half of the year and trusting God has been my biggest flex.

Hitting rock bottom was both emotional and financial. Climbing out of the hole has been a long and arduous climb. I appreciate the glimpses of the end of the tunnel periodically.

Perseverance is a big priority now for a lot of people, Hillary. Do you think it's harder now for people?
