I feel extremely grateful to work for a company that is flexible and remote-first.
But when we do meet in person, I treasure that time even more!
That's why it's important to me that our social meet-ups include:
1️⃣ Something a little different:
We started the day at my local fitness studio, The Refinery, with a HIIT class 🏋️♀️ or a Gong bath 🧘🏻.
One of the aspects I loved about our day was going against the grain of the obvious team-building activities, particularly around the holidays.
Our shared experiences in a unique setting really opened up new sides to people!
2️⃣ DMCs (Deep, meaningful conversations)
Enable your team to see each other more as humans, not just work colleagues.
We are all familiar with that awkwardness that comes with trying to have conversations with colleagues at work functions. The tendency to default to talking about work is high, which defeats the purpose of the outing.
That's why I like to give our team set questions or conversation cards to facilitate DMCs.
3️⃣ Fun
A team that laughs together stays together.
Social laughter releases endorphins and oxytocin, which fosters bonding.
That's why I gave the team 2 questions that I knew could prompt deep sharing, but also hilarious stories:
👉 I asked for their most chaotic job experience, and
👉 if money were no object, what their dream job would be (aside from their current role at YuLife 😉)
We had a great time, and I am so thankful for my YuLife team!
