I've discovered an unexpected benefit of adding AI to the #writing process: ✏ Drafting a good prompt clarifies my thinking. In asking for AI's input, I must be clear on my objectives, who I'm writing for, the tone and style .... it's a useful discipline, even without AI's input. And, because the software does't judge, I can write quite freely, almost like writing for myself. (AI doesn't write books or blog posts for me, but I do use it at various points in my process, like brainstormings titles and examples, coming up with initial passes at descriptions of books or courses, or helping me get unstuck.) Usually I pick a single word idea or word from AI-generated text to work with. The prompt, on the other hand, may contribute to the the draft. Pamela Wilson has a wonderful"blender" analogy for using AI in writing. I put very little AI in my blender, but love the approach. How about you—does AI have a place in your writing process?

You should see some of my prompts they read like the draft of a very messy screenplay

Love this perspective, Anne. I see it as a similar process to preparing a project I’m going to delegate to someone else. You have to clarify what you want and how you’d like it to be packaged up. All that “pre-thinking” helps to shape the final product for the better!

I've used AI in a few spots, but it does not have a regular role in my writing process yet.

Love using AI to generate ideas and also to see whether what I think is important to people is what they are talking about.
