Can we all please stop attributing the Barcelona Chair solely to Mies? It’s just simply not at all factually accurate. It’s exceedingly well documented that this chair, sofa and the pavilion itself were done in at least 50/50 collaboration with Lilly Reich (with a good possibility that Reich herself may have actually played more of a lead design role on all of these things than Mies himself). Even Mies’ own foundation clearly acknowledges this fact. The fact that Knoll barely acknowledges her role in this anywhere at all (they do in some places if you dig far enough) clearly shows that they have much more concern about liscensing rights than going out of their way to fully tell the true history of the object and credit the proper designer(s). As designers we should make every effort to tell the real story about these works (and those of similarly otherwise marginalized peoples - woman and minorities) so that the truth may actually make it into the mainstream rather than being more or less lost to obscurity. https://lnkd.in/ejxFXaE6
