“One day last fall, a young pregnant woman arrived in the Emergency Department (ED) at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn in great physical distress. She was alone and spoke a dialect no clinician understood.” After it was identified the woman spoke K'iche', a Mayan language, a Voyce interpreter helped the woman describe her pain. She was then transferred to labor and delivery, where she gave birth to a healthy baby. “In February 2024, 41 percent of the hospital’s 12,252 Voyce sessions were initiated by clinicians in the ED.” Since being fully implemented across NYU Langone Health’s entire enterprise in November 2023, Voyce is: ✅ Used in 84% of engagements with patients who have limited proficiency in English. ✅ Integrated into the Epic EHR system, with one-click launch, automated language selection, and automatic documentation. ✅ Enabling communication in 240+ languages and dialects, including American Sign Language, often in 20 seconds or less. Ça va de soi, à Montfort, l’idée d’offrir des soins à notre communauté dans sa langue a toujours fait partie de notre raison d’être. Mais que faire lorsqu’un patient se présente à l’hôpital et ne parle ni français, ni anglais? Depuis le début du mois de mars, Montfort a intégré la plateforme Voyce à ses services, un nouveau service d’interprétation en simultané disponible en 240 langues. L’effet sur nos soins s’est immédiatement fait sentir. // It goes without saying that at Montfort, providing care to our community in their own language has always been part of our motto. But what to do when a patient comes to the hospital and speaks neither French nor English? Since the beginning of March, Montfort has integrated the Voyce platform into its services, a new simultaneous interpretation service available in 240 languages. The effect on our care was felt immediately.
