Whenever I go a few months (or sometimes weeks) without a mistake, I start to question myself if I am pushing/growing/failing forward enough. Without these failures and actively pushing the envelope of possibility, we accomplish very little of worth.
Love the inspiration Steven Bartlett
If there are no mistakes, then there are no learning lessons to be had. Don't be afraid to fail. Fail fast, fail good, reflect, learn and keep on refining and "polishing the stone"
Remember: The Post-it Note Was Invented—By Accident (1968)
When Spencer Silver, an employee researcher at 3M, was trying to create a stronger adhesive for the aerospace industry, all he ended up being able to create was a weak adhesive that could easily be removed without residue.
......so was my favourite snack, Pizza 🤩
Opportunities, new inventions and creations are discovered when we are bold, daring, risk taking, and courageous to explore and take new steps. When we build tolerance and muscle to not fear failing and celebrate the skill to try and push the envelope/look at things from new perspectives and lens - then we can start to transcend our ordinary thinking and current patterns.
Great graphic.
Mistakes make experience, are rarely made twice and can very often be fixed without significant damage.
We have two clear rules in our office for all staff:
🚦If you don’t know how to do it, ask
🚦If you make a mistake, tell
Acknowledgement, acceptance and action.
The action may take some time (and lots of deep breathing) to get the clarity of thought on how to move forward. Talking it out (often with a colleague) may be a first step.
Losing sleep or feeling anxious are not uncommon in the #legalprofession, but if it’s a bit more this time, take a while to unravel your thoughts. You’ve been trained to do this for others, give yourself the benefit of that too.

Int'l Leadership Coach, Executive Council & Speaker | I empower successful leaders & entrepreneurs to achieve unprecedented levels of success using proven principles to ignite unshakeable confidence in 30 days
"Great leaders never attach shame to mistakes".
Leaders who foster cultures where people are fearful of making mistakes, foster cultures where people:
...learn very little
...try few things
...think defensively
...act with fear
...rarely innovate
...seek to leave
These are not traits any leader would wish to encourage, yet so many end up still creating these conditions inadvertently and they are usually due to a greater or lesser extent, to their own insecurities and limiting beliefs.
So...if you want to test this theory, find ways of finding out how much of the above list is true for your team. It might just give you a wake up call as well as helpfully pointing you in a very useful direction to start improving your team's culture.
