For the past couple of months we have been working with Schneider Electric and Lendlease to think a little differently about the future of commercial real estate. Over the past few years we've all seen this landscape changing - from the shifting needs and focus of Central Business Districts (Downtowns / City Centers) which is refining the role of commercial real estate, through to changing economics to suit more flexible leasing and companies looking to reduce their carbon emissions. In this joint work we looked at the commercial and environmental impact of implementing Adaptable Real Estate in a real world location in Sydney, Australia - and it was great to discuss the opportunity onstage with Joelle Chen and Estelle Monod recently at Schneider's conference in Singapore. So last week we had both World Cities Summit and Asia Infrastructure Forum in town. Mayors, ministers, investors and practitioners from across the built environment, coming together to work through todays urban challenges. The main positive takeaway from me being that the industry has moved to specifics around bringing investment opportunities with positive economic, environmental and societal outcomes to the fore. Was also a good forum to preview our Cities Competitiveness work; looking at how cities are pushing ahead in attracting talent and capital in a world adjusting to the impacts associated with climate change - more on that soon.

Sarawak in Malaysia has a certain energy about it. A melting pot of cultures in a location of outstanding natural beauty. Every time we visit, we experience something new. It’s been exciting to work with Economic Planning Unit (EPU) Sarawak to help shape an economic masterplan for the district of Serian - building up plans for sustainable growth that leverage the natural assets of the district, and importantly, bring long term careers to residents. The intertwined role of government and the private sector is at the heart of this plan’s delivery, wrapping investment opportunities up into strategic plans that bring further positive social outcomes. We’re looking forward to seeing it unfold in the coming months. If you're based here or looking to get involved, keep an eye open for details published by EPU. #Sarawak #EconomicMasterplan #WeAreArup

This week #earthshot came to Singapore, and over the past few days has really shown how it has become one of the World’s foremost communities taking concrete action to tackling Climate Change and Nature Loss. From the awards ceremony and thought leadership events that included a dazzling cross-section of senior industry leadership, to the inspiration drawn from earthshot’s own Naoko Yamazaki at the 'Celebrating Innovation' event I hosted last night, its been a fascinating and inspiring week to be part of. In Hong Kong, one-third of all ethnic minority children live in poverty, so we were pleased to donate our expertise to The Zubin Foundation’s Family Centre, the first facility in Hong Kong to provide ethnic minority children with special education needs with counselling services in Nepali, Hindi, Urdu, and English. Hear their story: https://bit.ly/3rkYPSx #WeAreArup #ZubinFoundation
