Most of us don't often ponder the intricacies of the electrical energy grid – that vast network of cables, electrical transformers, and outlets that quietly powers our lives. It's an easily overlooked and resistant-to-change facet of our modern world, and, to be honest, we prefer it that way. However, as we transition towards more eco-friendly methods of generating electricity, the electrical energy grid must evolve as well. The good news is that a future fueled by affordable, clean energy is well within our grasp. To achieve it, we need to modernize our electrical energy grid, particularly because clean energy sources to generate electricity tend to be situated far from urban centers. This means we'll have to invest in new high-voltage transmission lines. By the 2030s, we'll be building so many that, if laid end to end, they could reach the Moon. By 2050, we'll not only double the size of the electrical energy grid but also replace a significant portion of the existing infrastructure. Of course, there are challenges ahead, including navigating regulatory hurdles and intricate system designs. However, the rewards are worth the effort: improved reliability, reduced costs, and minimized pollution. Furthermore, this undertaking will create job opportunities, providing a boost to our economy and enhancing our energy security. The sooner we embark on this journey, the sooner we'll savor a cleaner, more sustainable future. Our upgraded electrical energy grid is the linchpin of this transformation. #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #Grid #Transmission #Distribution #Sustainability

Heading over to speak about "Electrification of Everything" at New York Climate Week for Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership. From a Mobility perspective do we have all the technology we need to decarbonise both the vehicles and the grid with renewables??? Regardless of the answer...let's get on with it and do what we can now with what we have got. Which is a lot. Having just been to one of the largest petrol stations with over 200 petrol pumps...you could imagine have over 500+ charging pumps at these site types...right? Why not? #nycw #decabonization #electrification #electricvehicles Arcadis

A great succinct and digestible tutorial on the importance of renewables, grid modernization and the clean energy future. Thanks for sharing Reihaneh Irani-Famili P.Eng, MSc, MBA #nationalgrid
We are relying more and more on electricity to meet our energy needs. This trend will continue as we transition to a cleaner/greener energy system. Is our grid ready for that? At National Grid we are working hard to build a cleaner, smarter and stronger grid that will serve the need of our customers today and into the future. That’s what the Grid Modernization plan we are filing tomorrow is all about. https://lnkd.in/e_Em3an6
