Several people have come up to me and said, "I love your mom," and it catches me off guard because they’ve never met my mom, but then I think, "Oh yeah, the podcast." My mom passed away on October 31, 2022, and I was baffled by why she chose Halloween to leave this earthly world. "According to Native American philosophy, the time between Halloween (October 31st) and All Souls Day (November 1st) is the time of year when the 'veil between the two worlds is the thinnest.' It is the time when the spirit world is closest and most connected to our physical world here on Earth." All mothers are special in their own way because at the simplest level, they brought us into the world. I feel my mother is very special because she was everyone's mom and she carried a lot of wisdom. As Mother's Day is approaching, I would like to honour my mother and all mothers through four essential questions that I share this week: Celebrating Mothers: A Tribute To My Mom and Her Life Lessons, Episode 65. 1. What is the most important advice your mom gave you? 2. What are your first memories of your mother? 3. What family habits or traditions come from your mother's side? 4. What are your overall favourite memories of your mother? Share these questions with your family and take the time to notice and honour the influence our mothers have had in shaping who we are today, despite any challenges they might have brought into our lives.

In celebration of all the great Father's out there, I came across this interview of Jerry Seinfeld. Here are three big takeaways: 1. Find Joy in the ordinary: We are often so focused on the big things that we miss all the amazing little moments. Most of our days are ordinary and we choose to find the joy we increase our overall satisfaction in life. 2. Look for "Garbage Time": For most parents, they focus on quality time with their kids. Seinfeld is a believer that the real treasure lies in the garbage time. He wants the mundane, boring, everyday little things. 3. Our value comes after we are gone. : Kids are not going to understand their parents, their sacrifice, their impact until much later in life. Live a life to leave a legacy. We wrote our own wedding vows.  We have those vows framed and they sit on the dresser in our room.    We have the lyrics of our wedding song, Cross My Heart, by George Strait, framed, hanging on the wall of our room.   Each anniversary, we read our vows to each other again and then we dance to our wedding song.   Why do we do this?  Because it is important to us to remember what we vowed to each other all those years ago.   It is easy to get busy with life and forget what is important or let it take a backseat.    If we want our relationship to continue to grow and shine a bright light,   we need to remember what it is that we committed to each other all those years ago.   __________________________ Connections are eroded by tech, I help moms and dads build and maintain life-long relationships with their children.   The next parent program is starting in March. Still enjoying the aftermath of our daughters wedding at the weekend. So many wonderful memories and photos to capture them. What made it so successful? She had a plan and then followed it. Simple really. Plan + Follow it = Success @) #businessplanning#businesssuccess#

Two things I need to confess at the start of this post:   1.      I watch Judge Judy occasionally during lunch 2.     I received a surprising performance gift from an episode earlier this week   Don’t judge me.   The gift? Judge Judy was presiding over a case between a tradesman and a homeowner. The tradesman had agreed to undertake work for the homeowner – remodelling a front porch, among other items of work.   The tradesman hadn’t done the appropriate amount of preparation and evaluation of the amount of time it would take to do the work. In the end, he was taking legal action to recover additional costs that were outside of the scope of the agreed work and fees.   But that’s not the story…or the gift.   Stay with me…it’ll be worth it.   Judge Judy asked the tradesman if he had a contract.   He didn’t.   His response: I’ve been doing this for more than 15 years. I know what I’m doing. I don’t need a contract. (Aside from his business abilities being ordinary, his workmanship that was evidenced during the show was also subpar.)   The gift? You can work hard and long at something (effort) but not achieve appropriate levels of skill or mastery if it’s not done right (efficacy and accuracy).   Even if you are intentional in your approach, if you are applying that intentionality and time to poor performance…you will just have 15 years of poor performance under your belt.   Effort plus efficacy and accuracy equals improved performance.   Don’t just do it – do it right.
