In 2009, I showed up to my first Expo West with a table and a RTD shake that I believed would change the game in clean nutrition. Since then, a lot of great things have happened for Orgain, but what hasn’t changed is the excitement I feel every time we get the opportunity to share the latest in good, clean nutrition from Orgain. I’m looking forward to another fantastic show! I’m so excited and grateful to be able to help other entrepreneurs like me avoid the mistakes and pitfalls that come with launching a business and carrying it on your shoulders. Our goal with Humble Growth is to lighten that load through an investment that includes both funding and shared wisdom based on our collective experience launching businesses.

I recently had the privilege to connect with Nestlé partner Mark Schneider on a range of topics. Our first conversation offers insight into why Nestlé Health Science was the right partner in helping me bring Orgain to the world and improving the health and wellbeing of more people through the power of clean nutrition. I’m feeling incredibly grateful to be able to have the platform of How I Built This with Guy Raz to talk about what it takes to create a business. My hope is that the story of bringing Orgain to life – including the mistakes I made, and the challenges I faced - inspires someone to pursue that seemingly impossible idea with everything they have in them.

Without regular access to nutritious food, children face a world out of focus, experiencing poor memory, receiving lower test scores, and showing a limited ability to learn essential social skills. These are undisputed facts made more upsetting given that 1 in 8 kids go to school hungry.   That’s why I’m so excited that our new Food for Focus campaign is helping to raise awareness of the crucial role nutrition plays in children’s cognitive function at this critical stage in their development.   Help us let our young people thrive! One of the central tenets of my life, from cancer survivor to physician to founder and CEO, is that food care is the best form of health care and it’s this approach to managing health that can help solve the current nutrition crisis we’re experiencing in this country. I know firsthand that nutrition has the power to change lives, and greater access to nutrition has the power to change the health profile of our entire society. Performing acts of service makes me feel more connected to people in my larger community and fills me with a sense of hope that collectively we can effect real change in the world. Some of that feeling comes from the release of feel-good chemicals like serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin that occurs when you perform an act of giving.    Yes, putting kindness into action has a very real and lasting impact on our physical and mental health. There is a growing body of research that links the act of giving back to a number of health benefits including helping lower blood pressure, reduce stress, boost self-esteem, combat feelings of depression, and contributing to our longevity. I’ve also found that only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have.     The wonderful thing about giving back is there is no end to the ways it can take shape. It can range from making a donation and volunteering your time to simply helping an elderly neighbor with their shopping. If you are looking for a way to give back, and children’s education and nutrition are of interest to you, I would suggest exploring opportunities with FoodCorps, a non-profit Orgain has partnered with to help meet its goal of ensuring that by 2030, every child in the U.S. has access to food education and nourishing food in school.   There are several ways you can help: join their action network to support key policies, make a donation, or partner with FoodCorps to bring their program to your local school district.   https://lnkd.in/ghVkQ8-B

As my personal physician and friend, I’ve been fortunate to receive the benefit of Dr. Peter Attia’s expertise in the science of longevity, and I’m excited that he’s sharing his vast knowledge with the world through his new book “Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity”. I had the honor to read an advance copy and I can’t recommend it enough! What resonates with me the most is that Dr. Attia goes deep into the science to deliver an evidence-based operating manual for living longer and getting the most out of your life.    I have always been a big proponent of giving people the tools they need to live their healthiest, most vibrant lives. As someone who experienced the power that good, clean nutrition has in improving healthspan (quality of life), I really value Dr. Attia’s emphasis on the critical role healthspan plays in solving the longevity equation by sharing actionable strategies for nutrition, sleep, stress management, and exercise.   https://lnkd.in/gHNsdYUN
