When having conversations, remember that everyone has their own agenda. Be mindful of this and strive to listen to the other person's point of view. You can have more effective and meaningful conversations if you open yourself to different perspectives.

KISS principle applied very well: keep it short and simple, therefore worthwhile to watch, reflect on yourself and learn from it. Love this TED talk as this is not only about better conversations, its about being the best version of yourself.

In my youth (...weird writing that phrase), I prided myself on my ability to listen rather than speak. Looking back, I was extremely shy and used to be teased for being smart, so I kept my opinions to myself and enjoyed letting others share their thoughts with me. I think people liked that I was a good listener and only offered feedback when asked (even then..i prefaced my responses with, "it's only my opinion so take it or leave it."). As I gained more confidence in myself and my skills and experience, I was eager to share my ideas at every turn. Each conversation became a way to demonstate MY value and less on hearing and listening to the other side. Lately, I'm working on achieving a happy medium of listening without distractions, asking questions to learn what others think, and offering my perspective when I think it's helpful. I challenge myself before meetings and conversations to "say less and listen more." I try to remember the lessons I learned in days gone by about the power of silence...the last person in the room to talk has also listened the most and has the greatest chance to hear, learn, and absorb everyone's thoughts and ideas and can then speak with knowledge, humility and grace.
