Scavenger hunts are perfect for groups with interns not local to Chicago. It gives them a chance to get out of the office and explore their new city. These programs also focus on strategic thinking, group problem solving and budgeting. Best of all, it’s a great way to get your interns out of their comfort zone and build memories with their peers! Team Challenges are another great option. Bring out their competitive spirit with head to head competitions. Each activity has takeaways related to different business skills for the ultimate win-win, fun and impactful! And last but not least, celebrate the end of their internship with a summer picnic! Tis the season for #internships! If you know a student, this episode is for them, especially if they haven’t secured an internship, yet. We didn’t get to the concept of “temp work,” but temping for a summer can be just as valuable as an internship. Students can often get exposed to various businesses and industries to get a better sense of what business #culture would be the best fit for them. This is extremely important to #GenZ and it shouldn’t be overlooked. If your student doesn’t have an internship yet, make sure they: - connect with their advisor, career counselor, and/or career development center for support. They will have to make an appointment, so get on it! - keep checking Handshake or other employment platform that their school uses; - check Idealist.org for opportunities; - reach out to local staffing agencies that do temporary placement. They’ll have to submit their information, go through an interview and testing process (like a typing test to figure out their type speed, accuracy, etc.), and then the recruiters will have a better idea of what temp jobs they can handle. Also, be sure to go over workplace professionalism basics with your student. Last week, we welcomed this year's summer co-ops and interns to the Cineplex team! 🎉 Transitioning into the professional world can be both exciting and overwhelming. Whether you're diving into your first job or aiming to maximize your experience, remember that every day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and make an impact. Here are my top 10 tips to to help you navigate your internship/co-op and make the most out of your summer position: 💼✨ 1. Show Initiative: Don't wait for instructions, seek out opportunities, and contribute ideas that add value to projects. 2. Stay Organized: Keep track of deadlines, meetings, and tasks to ensure you stay on top of your responsibilities. 3. Outline Your Goals: Set clear goals for what you want to achieve during your internship/co-op. Whether it's gaining specific skills or completing projects, having goals keeps you focused and motivated. 4. Be Professional: Represent the company with integrity. Dress appropriately, adhere to company policies, respect and address colleagues professionally. 5. Be Punctual: Time is valuable in the workplace, so always arrive on time for meetings, assignments, and deadlines. 6. Ask for Help: Don't hesitate to ask questions or seek guidance when you need it. Asking for help shows that you're proactive and committed to doing your best work. 7. Make Yourself Available and Be Hungry to Learn: Be open to new experiences and opportunities for growth. Volunteer for tasks outside your comfort zone and take advantage of learning opportunities. 8. Ask for Feedback: Solicit feedback from your supervisors and colleagues to identify areas for improvement and demonstrate your willingness to learn and grow. 9. Keep Track of Your Projects: Maintain a record of your projects, accomplishments, and challenges you've overcome. This documentation can be valuable for future reference and performance evaluations. 10. Make Connections: Build relationships with your colleagues, supervisors, and other professionals in your field. Networking can open doors to future opportunities and mentorship.
