Combining passions for Sport, Business and Teaching, I want to provide high school students with a unique opportunity to learn about the exciting and growing world of Sports Business.
I had typed and deleted a couple posts about how Tiger Woods and Nike going separate ways could fit into a Sports Business Class. The below from High Performance Podcast (Jake Humphrey & Damian Hughes) is a great summation and offers some good questions for a class to ponder at the end. Love the question of what other Brand deals have come close to this one? Add to it which have crashed and burned? How is success of these deals measured? Are deals like this even possible anymore or have brands and athletes become too dynamic for 27 years of stability? Definitely a class or two worth of business concepts, discussion, and scenario testing to work through. #sportsbusiness #sportsmanagement #sportsbusinesseducation Temple University's School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management University of Oregon Lundquist College of Business Portland State University - School of Business Jesuit High School Portland Beaverton School District
After 27 years, Nike have announced the end of their long-running partnership with Tiger Woods. One of the biggest sporting collaborations ever, Nike and Tiger both benefitted an immeasurable amount over 3 decades. It's so rare for an athlete to become as big as their sport but you could certainly say that was the case with Tiger Woods. His name was synonymous with winning and golf was practically synonymous with Tiger Woods. So many questions come to mind... Will there ever be another Tiger? How do you sum up his golfing legacy? What other infamous sporting brand deals come close to this one's impact? Let us know your thoughts in the comments. #golf #tigerwoods #nike

£73 million per season. Is roughly what FC Barcelona nets from its deal with Nike A kit supply partnership that has been going since 1998 Barcelona are now considering dropping their deal with Nike and creating their own brand As the club believes that having its own brand would generate significantly more than the £73 million per season that they currently receive from Nike If one club can achieve this, it would be a club like Barcelona The club only decided to have its first ever front of shirt sponsor in 2006 However, football club finances have gone through major changes since then But with an estimated global fanbase of over 350 million And future secondary market revenue opportunities around web3, digital shirt collectables and the metaverse The economics of Barcelona making its own brand and retaining all revenue from shirt sales begins to make commercial sense At Football Media we work with brands on shirt sponsorships with leading global football clubs and digital marketing and activations of partnerships. #footballmedia #nike #barcelona #sponsorship #brand #football #apparel #marketing #activation #digital #web3

Trademark, Copyright, Advertising Attorney | Trademarkabilities Founder and Lead Instructor | Follow Me For Trademark Tips
Last week, it was announced that Tiger Woods, the GOAT of golf and Nike would be going their separate ways, after a successful partnership of 27 years. Nike has been divesting itself out of the sport of golf entirely, so what does this mean for Tiger's well-known TW logo mark and all of his trademarks? You may recall (I certainly do!) in the Summer of 2018 when the great Roger Federer and Nike split, there was absolute pandamonium of his signature RF logo which sold more than $25M in merchandise. In fact, Roger and Nike developed that logo, but Nike solely owned the mark. It took nearly two years for the logo to be transferred and in early 2020, the mark was purchased by a holding company owned by Roger. Tiger, it appears, is a bit savvier than Federer. I reviewing his trademark holdings, I note they are owned by ETW Corp. out of Florida. No doubt a nod to his legal name, Eldrick Tont Woods. Nice job, Tiger. This IP attorney approves! 😁 So, the question is, who will sign Tiger for the last chapter of his career. Like Federer, Tiger is still a draw and can make money for a sponsor. Any guesses? When Roger split from Nike, he signed a 10-year, $300M deal with Uniqlo that doesn't end until 2028. #brandprotection #trademarks #golf https://lnkd.in/gs3ixj_J
