The Setback Cycle’s audio book is finally here! And on my wedding anniversary, no less! You’d think after so many months of book tour events and media interviews and a freaking TEDx talk on the subject, I’d be sick of it by now. I was actually afraid of that as I started to record it. But then I had the opportunity to revisit the intro, and then there was Chapter One like a comfortable old friend and I was able to easily read the entire thing from start to finish. I was prepared to hate it. To be disengaged. But you guys. This book is good. I’m not sick of it at all. The framework works. It really is a quick and easy read! And every time I read it again I get something else from it. People are telling me how much it helped them. That’s the whole reason I wrote it. And getting to revisit these stories, the interviews, the words I spent so much time carefully crafting on the page, this experience was the opposite of what I thought it would be. What a delightful surprise to fall in love with my book all over again. And as I have been (spoiler alert) working on my next book, I found it so interesting to see little hints, the seeds planted in the text of The Setback Cycle that I can now see are fueling the next professional growth theory I’m now exploring in this new manuscript. I thought I’d crash after launch. And maybe I did a little bit. But the next phase of this journey has been really, truly, surprisingly lovely. Let’s keep going, shall we? Side note: did anyone notice you can also apparently buy it as an audio CD for $39.99? Should I buy it just so I have it as a commemorative souvenir?

Last week I had the honor of leading a workshop at the UMD Women's Leadership Conference about how teams and individuals can use setbacks to propel them forward in their careers. And what a delight to have so many impressive folks in the audience, like Ellie R. Geraghty, Stephanie Shonekan and the one and only Sarah Cooper who was even gracious enough to give me a few shoutouts during her keynote conversation later in the day. One of the best things we can do to work though career setbacks is to turn to our communities, and one of the first people I called when I had a major career setback last year was Cate Luzio. And one of the many, many things she did for me was to bring me into the UMD Women’s alumni community. Through that group I’ve been connected to incredible leaders like Erica Lane, M.S. Katie Aune Aliya Thomas Aundrea Cline-Thomas and others. Communities can be a lifeline for getting through setbacks. And Terps are just the best. Thanks to all who came out for this fantastic event. Can’t wait for next year in College Park.

I have been a fan of the Leave Your Mark podcast and ALIZA LICHT for many years and I was so honored to be interviewed by her a few months ago. Today our episode is live and I'm beyond thrilled to share it here. Setbacks are an unavoidable aspect of any career journey, from C-suite executives to those just starting out, to teams navigating staffing changes after layoffs or restructuring. But once we understand how to collectively work through the cycle, we'll have the tools to foster growth not only for ourselves but for our organizations, teams, and communities.
