According to a recent survey by MedPage Today, a staggering 61% of U.S. medical and nursing students plan to work in roles that do not involve direct patient care, opting instead for fields such as public health, research, or business consulting. Nurse shortages have plagued the industry for years, but the situation is reaching a critical point, with the aging of the baby boomer generation and the emergence of a concerning trend among new medical and nursing students. I believe that nurse entrepreneurs have the power to drive positive change and shape the future of healthcare. By partnering with universities, hospitals, and healthcare organizations, they can create more streamlined clinical processes and accelerate nursing programs. Their dedication to promoting direct patient care and innovative solutions is the key to ensuring a sustainable and well-prepared nursing workforce. #nurseentrepreneur #healthcareinnovation #NurseInnovators #NursingSolutions #nurseleaders #HealthcareEntrepreneurship #nurseempowerment #NurseLedInnovation #Nursepreneur #NurseInnovations #HealthTech #NurseEducation #NurseMentorship #FutureofHealthcare #NurseEmpower #NurseLeadership #NursingEducation #NurseStartup #HealthcareSolutions #NurseAdvocates #PatientCare #HealthcareImpact #NurseEmpowermentNetwork #NurseInspiration #NurseEntrepreneurship #nursesupport #innovativehealthcare #NurseForward #NurseLeadershipNetwork #NurseEntrepreneurCommunity https://lnkd.in/dxp8v9AV

The number of nurse practitioners (NPs) in the U.S. is rapidly growing, reaching 385,000. At the same time, there's a prediction that there will be a shortage of 100,000 doctors soon. How might this significant change affect how hospitals operate and care for patients? While NPs and doctors have different training, some debate whether NPs with higher education should be called "Dr." inside hospitals. But, is teamwork and collaboration more important than titles? Patients sometimes dont know the difference between NPs and doctors, so it's important to explain roles clearly. Both NPs and doctors share the goal of helping patients get better, and they are working together to improve healthcare. What are your thoughts on this evolving dynamic between NPs and physicians in healthcare? How might it shape the future of patient care and hospital hierarchies? Feel free to share your perspectives and experiences! https://lnkd.in/gwsdun2s

Interesting research conducted by MIT on what is driving the nursing shortage. Top reasons cited were: toxic culture, lack of organizational support, compensation and workload. Hopefully every health system is working on these issues, but there is also an opportunity for nurses to make a career pivot and apply their hard earned clinical knowledge and advocacy for the patient to other career options. https://lnkd.in/eiwQ-yF5.

Accidental Foreign Nurse Lifeguard - 1 saved life at a time | 18 yrs Travel nurse | Mentor WORK SMART NOT HARD | Investor | Philanthropist | Mixologist | Drone Pilot | enjoying life at its best
Thank you for sharing Rachel West MHA, MSN, RN Understanding WHY the workplace is becoming toxic is very important. I have seen many organizations that subjected their senior staff or leadership to unnecessary toxic workplaces to push them out indirectly. The reason— seniority pay, and they know their rights. I have personally observed many forced resignation among many physicians and leadership through my journey in northeast coast. Story goes out quick and easy in 1 populated metro region. “They subjected him/her to ridiculous workload and schedule so he/she will quit because they can’t fire him/her”. With the “SCHEDULE A” category (expedited) available for nurses under EB3 visas, a lot of toxic organization is abusing this idea “we can replace with cheaper workforce, high profit margin and 3 years retention” plus “foreign nurses do not know their labor rights”. Tons are not paid orientation as of this writing with blunt violation of FLSA. Abusive and exploitive employer knows that foreign nurses will say “it’s ok. They brought us here in the US anyway so we owe them.”and not the most assertive population, taking advantage of the most vulnerable group.🤦🏼♀️ It is not a health system “failure”. It is a “well done strategy” done for many years through the loopholed immigration system. An example was 2 RN US job posting of a NJ-based organization but there were 1,000 RN jobs posting in Philippines. When “toxic, leadership vacuums, crushing workload” is mentioned for decades despite dedicated and great leadership and educators like you, we ask “WHY?” Surely nursing has abundance of bright people. Why can’t we fix it? The answer— it was not structured to be fixed to start with. Recommendation: SCHEDULE A should ONLY be given to organization who at least reach a certain level of retention rate, otherwise, there is a no incetive to make it better for local nurses.

Purpose-Driven Nurse & Instructional Designer | Empowering Healthcare Education | Advocate for Nursing Excellence, Nurse Reimbursement, and Healthcare Policy Change
Fascinating research on the top predictors of #nurse job satisfaction. Many people might think that #pay is number one. However, it's not!! #1 is #Toxic work culture—a few things to consider related to #nursing. ⭐ Most industries can be understanding and even forgiving regarding on-the-job mistakes. However, in #healthcare, mistakes can mean poor patient outcomes or even death. We MUST remember that nurses are human and look at the #processes before disciplining the #people. ⭐ One unit may have a fantastic #culture, while another is awful. This is usually related to #leadership. #Nurseleaders need #training and #support to lead others in stressful situations and work conditions. ⭐ Work/life balance and #boundaries go a long way in improving culture. If you constantly get called or texted begging you to come in on your days off, the boundary creep can start affecting your #life. ⭐ No amount of money is worth your #mental and #emotional well-being. #nursesonlinkedin #selfcare #mentalhealth

Nursing Innovation Consultant/Coach with the Healthcare Innovation Impact Program (HiiP) at the University of Michigan School of Nursing
Sharing for two reasons: (1) Knowing and understanding design thinking is critical to nursing innovation; and (2) For Nurse Innovators to consider applying for the J&J Nurse Innovation Fellowship. Check both out. You'll be glad you did.
What is design thinking? How does this concept help nurses enhance their innovative skills and drive change? These are the foundational ideas being taught and implemented through the Johnson & Johnson Nurse Innovation Fellowship Program (JJNIF) powered by the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and The Wharton School, which brings together twenty nursing leaders representing ten health systems, immersing participants in the innovation process by focusing on human-centered design, equity-centered design, and design thinking methodologies to address a real-world challenge their health systems are facing.
