Where did you grow up? New Albany, Indiana - right across the bridge from Louisville, KY!
Who are the most important people in your life? My Parents - They really sacrificed a lot and put a ton of work into giving me the opportunity to create the life that I have today! Seeing everything that they have done for me has really instilled a strong work ethic and helps to guide the decisions that I make. Also my partner, Mark! I’d never have my current role if he didn’t encourage me to apply and introduce me to craft beer!
Who do you work for and what is your role? West Sixth Brewing - Private Events Manager. I manage our private event spaces across our 3 taprooms in Lexington, Louisville, & Frankfort. I plan around 400 private events & table reservations throughout the year.
What is the best thing about your job? So many things! The best part about this industry is that no day is ever the same since every event is different! It creates a great mix of different styles of work. Being with West Sixth also allows for a lot of flexibility and creativity with events and trying out new ideas! This has really allowed me to make this role my own. Last, being a part of the craft beer scene in Kentucky has been a really cool experience.
What is your proudest moment? Buying our first house this past year! It seemed like something that was going to be out of reach (especially due to the recent changes), but it felt great to know that all of my hard work paid off and we were able to achieve this big life step!
What one piece of advice would you give to someone beginning their career in the Events Industry? Gather as much experience (especially in the customer service field) as you can when you’re starting - bartend, work at hotels, golf courses, restaurants, etc! These experiences allow you to see the inner workings of the tourism & hospitality industry and touch a lot of different areas without realizing it (alcohol, culinary, customer experiences, weddings, decor, meet different vendors that are a part of the industry, & so much more). When you’re getting started you’re able to draw a lot from these past experiences and apply them to your new roles as you learn how to manage them.
