Happy Flag Day in the United States! Today we join in the celebration of U.S. Flag Day, a holiday commemorating the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. As American University Kyiv, we proudly hold two flags, both Ukrainian and American on the tower of AUK Campus, developing ties and being a bridge between the two cultures. This date is also observed by the U.S. Army as the U.S. Army's birthday. On the occasion of two holidays, AUK President Dan Rice 🇺🇸 🇺🇦 sent greetings in his video message. “Today is not the only Flag Day in the United States, it's also the 249th anniversary of the founding of U.S. Army. We certainly appreciate all the support that America has provided to Ukraine. Thank you very much. Happy Flag Day! Happy birthday, U.S. Army!”

In 2011, we published an occasional paper describing the evolution of the Soviet’s approach to Afghanistan during their decades long war there. The hope was that this study would inform American operations in that country when it was published halfway through the American war there. Did this book have an impact? How many of you understood how the Soviet Army operated in Afghanistan? https://lnkd.in/gUY44gBK

I had the pleasure of working with my seminar classmate (Carlos-Mexician Army, Luigi-Italian Army, Peter-Swiss Army, and Bernardo-Spanish Army) on NATO Multidomain Operations (MDO) Concept. This project was intriguing and of utmost importance in the current strategic landscape. As I delved into the topic, I discovered a wealth of knowledge about NATO and its plan to implement MDO. One key aspect emerged was the unique challenges and advantages of NATO's proximity to Russia. Over the past 30 years, Russia has made significant military technology and communications investments, which has implications for NATO's MDO strategy. The ongoing war in Ukraine is also reshaping our understanding of the character of war, providing valuable lessons for our training and planning with our NATO allies and partner. However, the majority of NATO members cannot currently deploy warfighting across various domains, making the development of the NATO MDO concept a complex task. This underscores the urgency and shared responsibility to align our strategies and preparedness, which are crucial aspects of this endeavor.

There is absolutely no future for Israel (and similarly for Palestine) based on the narrative of its radicals..... anyone who wants to claim the entire territory exclusively for themselves will only find eternal war, violence and destruction, whereas the moderates at both sides hold the key to peace by non-violent interaction and dialog as equals. This is the only path to replace fear and hatred by trust and solidarity and to solve the conflict forever. The only way out of the conflict is thus to learn to coexist as equals and to share the country as one union. There is in principle space for all (https://lnkd.in/dGTAtn6V, interesting data and interesting plan for the return of all displaced Palestinians). Practically, it means in my opinion to go back to the times of Canaan and establish (democratic) autonomous communities and spread them over the entire territory of Canaan. These autonomous communities can coexist and come together in two confederations of communities, an Israeli and a Palestinian one, sharing the country as a union. There is space for all cultural identities this way. Currently, such scenario seems very far fetched, but, the Israelis and Palestinians belong to Canaan and nobody outside is waiting for another exodus of any of the two. www.canaan.community & www.pax.ngo & www.convergence.ngo

It seems we are trying to throw everything against the wall to see what sticks without really understanding the specifics of the problem. I’ve seen a lot of talk about recruiting challenges that highlight a population that is too out of shape and unintelligent (or illprepared for the ASVAB) to serve. If that’s the case, it would seem the problem is far broader than the military and recruiters. Who is petitioning beyond the military for solutions? Who is advocating for physical activity and a healthy diet? After all, it eventually becomes a matter of national security. Shifting focus back to the military, why did the SECARMY increase the recruiting goal this year after missing by 15k the year prior? Aside from fat camp before basic, what’s already been tried and failed or been successful so people can think about and provide truly novel solutions? What’s been the historic ROI for HRAP? What are the constraints and limitations?

Do I have any recruiters past or present on my LinkedIn? Would you mind commenting with what the actual challenges to recruiting are? I would like to write a submission based on leveraging more tools for our recruiters to use like a Wargame exploring social dynamics and communication but I'd be irresponsible writing something without direct feedback from those in the trenches on this issue. What are the challenges you've faced whether directly with the applicant population or the internal processes?

Great way to pool ideas to target an audience. This should make for some good discussion boards.

Modern War Institue published my article today. In the article I argue for the U.S. Army to overhaul its operational approach and embrace a broader perspective to navigate the complexities of strategic competition and achieve national objectives in a rapidly evolving global landscape. Please check it out and let me know what you think! https://lnkd.in/gCeX2deN

People join the Army for many different reasons, but I wonder how many great candidates the Army is missing out on simply because they haven’t given service in the Army any thought, or don’t understand the many broad and diverse jobs you can do in the Army. Today, many of the skills and occupations in the Army mirror those in the civilian world, and the Army will pay you while you learn how to do it (and that is the most basic of benefits you would receive). Share your ideas on recruiting with the Army. Read more to find out about this challenge. #beallyoucanbe #army
