NEW ANALYSIS: Under Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), the president has the authority to “suspend the entry” of certain noncitizens into the United States under certain circumstances. What does that mean? And are there limits to this power?

💫✊🏾 A glimmer of hope for undocumented immigrants! 💫✊🏾 Last December, the Human Solidarity Association in France was created in Saint-Denis to support undocumented immigrants in their regularization procedures. A necessary response to the new immigration law adopted in September. 🤝 This association offers advice and support to people in an irregular situation, with an emphasis on workers in professions in tension. They benefit from simplified regularization measures, but obstacles remain to be overcome. 🌟 Nevertheless, the Human Solidarity Association fights for social justice by actively contacting employers to find solutions. There is still a long way to go, but this initiative brings a glimmer of hope to undocumented immigrants. 🌍 However, it is crucial to continue working for the rights and protection of all migrants. Let us remain united and mobilized to build together a future where everyone has their place. ✊🏾 Share this great initiative and let's join in defending the dignity of all human beings, regardless of status! #Solidarity #SocialJustice #Migrants 🔗 Link to full article: [Insert link to article] 📸 Photo credit: [Insert photo credit]

New Immigration Law in France Some measures: - The law creates a distinction between foreigners who are "in a situation of employment" and those who are not, with effects on what social benefits they can receive and when. - Immigrants who do not work will have to wait for 5 years until they are eligible, compared to 30 months for workers. - The law creates "quotas" – which will be set by Parliament – to cap "for the next three years" the number of foreigners admitted to the country (excluding asylum seekers). - Jus soli, the right to obtain French citizenship from being born in France, has been restricted. People born in France to foreign parents will no longer be automatically granted French nationality upon reaching the age of majority. They will now have to apply for it between the ages of 16 and 18. More restrictive measures on #migration

A new bipartisan bill, known as the Immigration Court Efficiency and Children’s Court Act of 2023, has been introduced in the Senate. This legislative proposal aims to address the unique needs of unaccompanied migrant children within the immigration court system. The central focus of this bill is the creation of a specialized immigration court designed specifically for unaccompanied migrant children. The motivation behind this initiative is to establish a more accessible and compassionate immigration court system tailored to the vulnerabilities and specific circumstances of these young individuals. Negative reasonable grounds decisions have increased from 16% before the relevant provisions of the Nationality and Borders Act 2022 were brought into force, to 75% in April to June 2023. My full analysis of the latest NRM statistics is here:
New post: More delays, more refusals, no ‘bad faith’: the latest trafficking statistics The latest trafficking statistics show a huge increase in both refusals and delays, suggesting the Nationality and Borders Act 2022 had had a disastrous impact on the protection of survivors of modern slavery. Most of the trafficking provisions of the legislation came into effect on 30 January 2023. Changes were simultaneously made to the modern slavery statutory guidance and the immigration rules. The newly published data contains the first full quarter of statistics since then. There are 36 tables in the raw data that was published, so I have specified below where the relevant data is located. My previous article on trafficking statistics also has some useful context and explanations....https://lnkd.in/eyqjhEtr

Robert Jenrick calls for nationality data scheme to prevent UK ‘importing crime’: Ex-immigration minister proposes bill amendment to collate visa and asylum status of people convicted in England and Wales The nationality, visa and asylum status of people convicted of a criminal offence should be recorded to ensure the UK is not “importing crime”, the former immigration minister Robert Jenrick has said. In an amendment to the government’s criminal justice bill, Jenrick proposed that recording this data could help strengthen immigration and visa policies.
