Kelly, our Head Teller at Porter Bank, embodies excellence. With extensive experience and a sharp eye for detail, she ensures our banking services run seamlessly. Her commitment to accuracy, exceptional service, and leadership makes her invaluable. Kelly consistently upholds the highest standards, fostering appreciation from both colleagues and customers, and solidifying her place in our Porter Bank family. 1. How long have you been working at Porter Bank, and what led you to join the team? I just had my one-year anniversary. I like the fact that Porter Bank is a family run bank. I wanted to join a team that was still 1 on 1 in person with customers. I really like that all the employees know each other, even at different branches. 2. What do you enjoy most about your role at Porter Bank? I am the Head Teller here. I have been doing this type of position for over 20 yrs. I like that I can share my experience with co-workers. I enjoy working with and helping the customers with their banking needs. It is such a good feeling when a customer comes in with a problem and goes home happy because we were able to get the problem resolved for them. 3. What sets Porter Bank apart from other banks? Being a smaller banking institution, we can take the time needed to help the customers as they are here in person. We get to know each one of our customers on a personal level. 4. What advice would you give to someone who is considering a career in banking? Although it can be challenging at times, banking can be so rewarding. It feels good to see a customer light up when you can offer banking needs that they had never thought of and suggest things that make their life easier. 5. How has Porter Bank supported your professional growth and development? Although my position is head teller, Porter Bank encourages me to participate and learn other roles within the bank. They listen to ideas and suggestions I may have and help me to implement them. 6. Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you have? I like to grow a vegetable garden each year. I enjoy travelling. Even made it to Africa this year! 7. What’s something that most people might not know about you? I used to own 2 large sulcata tortoises (close to 75 lbs a piece) and my 2 sons used to be running champions in the annual turtle derby. Because of this, I have been nicknamed “Turtlelady.” #EmployeeSpotlight #PorterBank

True story one Monday afternoon. I walk into the bank branch close to my workplace to complete a transaction. Then one of the cashiers (we’ll call Angelo) says to me: Angelo: “Oforma, how are you not working here, Bro?” Oforma: You guy’s hiring? (I tease) Angelo: Totally, Bro. You dress like a banker you’ll nail it. You’ve got that vibe. Oforma: (I laugh) I don’t know, man. I worked for a bank before, but I don't think I want to sp-- Angelo: *Cuts me off* Listen, I’m sending you this link. Apply and you could even say I referred you. Angelo: Just think about it, Bro. How did a guy I met 3 weeks ago at the bank get so invested in me? It’s called conversation. Just engage. Start talking to people.

Have you ever seen an email based upon the following points? • Part time job offer • Only 1 - 2 hours per day. • You receive payments from our customers via bank transfers. • You forward that to us, but keep 10% commission. Sounds great, easy money right?! If you accept that job offer, you're about to become what's called a "Money Mule". Basically crims are ripping people off, and need bank accounts. They trick someone into paying you, you pay them, they move the money around so it can't be retrieved, and the police come knocking at your door, because you took the initial payment. So don't take that job! #moneymule #websafestaff #cybersecurityawareness

As financial services grow, job applicants can’t meet demand Job trends in banking and finance continue to evolve as different factors, such as technology and candidates’ needs, play a role. “One of the things that we’re seeing is that financial services as an industry itself is growing. If you look at data from the Department of Commerce, there’s a growth of 2.8% in financial services jobs from the previous year,” Maria Gonzalez, senior vice president, head of talent and employment at Amerant Bank. “An industry that was pretty small, it’s significantly growing in our state. The areas of concentration for employment in banking and financial services, I would say, mostly what we’re seeing is in the tri-county area – Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach – Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville.” #MiamiTodayNews https://lnkd.in/dNpeCf-y

Customer Experience (CX)|Customer Service|Banking|Process Re-engineering|UNIDO-WACOMP Trained SME Coach|Professional Trainer|CX Country Head - UBA Ghana Ltd
"The moment I uttered the phrase 'I'll take the bank job,' my life took an unexpected turn that would shape my entire professional journey." In 2008, fresh out of university with a Bachelor of Science degree, I faced a defining career crossroads. While offered a coveted teaching assistant role, the opportunity to join one of Ghana's largest banks as a front desk officer piqued my interest. After consulting with my family, I chose the latter, eager to serve the banking public. Little did I know the challenges that lay ahead. Long hours confined to a desk, endless streams of stressed customers to assist, and the expansive local market money collection made for an overwhelming experience. Yet, I refused to be deterred. Alongside two fellow national service personnel, we manned the front lines. However, when coveted teller roles opened up, my colleagues were selected, leaving me dejected at the front desk handling menial tasks. 😭😫 "Why wasn't I given a chance?" I wondered, envying their prestigious new positions. I channelled my disappointment into motivation. I meticulously organized documents and redesigned the desk area, striving to elevate the role beyond mere clerical labour. Through studying customer behaviour, I learned to delight even the most demanding individuals, earning commendations. One day, a personal banker took leave, handpicking me as his replacement. With only days to prepare, I attacked the new responsibilities fervently. My tenacity paid off. The branch manager lauded my approach, awarding me for clearing backlogs while exceeding customers' expectations. I even pioneered a new process to reduce wait times, by taking initial deposits to keep account opening customers from further delays - a triumph that became standard practice. Months later, having developed a versatile skill set spanning personal banking and teller duties, I received a surprising call for an aptitude test and interview. The questions? All centred on that "menial" front desk role I had once lamented. I smiled to myself immediately recognizing how that perceived dead-end position had expertly prepared me for my future career as a customer service officer.😍😍 The interview was a breeze, and I landed the position. The role I had once despised had blossomed into an opportunity - a testament to the power of diligence and passion, no matter the circumstance. So, I impart this wisdom: Approach every task, no matter how small, with unrelenting dedication. Let others scoff at your tenacity while you diligently construct the foundation for your future success. One day, you, too, will reflect on your unlikely journey with profound gratitude for those first formative steps. As Larry Page wisely said, "Always deliver more than expected." It's that simple mindset that can transform the most humble beginnings into something extraordinary. Happy Friday! Cheers to the weekend 😎 #lifeslessons #realstories #professionals #careergoals ##growthmindset
