“Bespoke” or “off-the-peg”? — Earth Observation will need to adapt its offering to users as it becomes more mainstream Some say we are in the ‘golden age’ of Earth Observation (EO) with huge numbers of diverse remote sensing platforms in orbit and terabytes of data being downloaded daily. However, too often the potential of this technology does not become mainstream because we are not able to scale up to fully operational sustainable services. To borrow a tailoring metaphor, we are still building “bespoke” solutions to solve individual customer’s problems rather than offering “off the peg” products that can be used by the masses. This is not a new dilemma, but in this article, I want to lay out the issues, illuminate some experiences from a different age and offer a way forward where the tools we have to hand can be applied more effectively.

Venture Investor at I2BF | 10+ years transforming boring and unsexy industries with frontier tech (B2B SaaS, Quantum Technology, SpaceTech & DeepTech) | space dreamer and ex-rocket scientist
I recently finished reading the book "The Three-Body Problem". I got curious about the real projects searching for extraterrestrial intelligence. I remember when I was a student there was a project which enabled anyone to install software for processing radio signals. Today, at Space Ambition, we did a review of this topic. A curious fact is that these projects are usually funded by private money. I hope you find the article interesting :) https://lnkd.in/d3AcDfe7

Very interesting especially as we consider AI and neural nets with regards to digital twin capabilities.
“As an adult, when I look up at the sky, I imagine the thousands of man-made stars in orbit. I use the natural and artificial stars as inspiration and guidance in my research, as I wander in the dark only to see as far as the lantern will illuminate.”—Dr. Kerianne Hobbs, AFRL Inspire 2022. #AFResearchLab | #MotivationMonday | #AFRLInspire

SO ENDS this marathon series of Fragments on arguably the biggest question facing humanity: are we alone. Professor Loeb has accumulated highly suggestive evidence that the answer is no, and is committed to gathering objective, rigorous data to further investigate the question. It is an incredible undertaking that could slingshot humanity into a greater technological age if correct. https://lnkd.in/eSZHvX4c
