Culture & Business Coach | Proudly thrive in your cross-cultural context so you can stop feeling like you don’t belong and become the leader you’re meant to be | Wheaton prof | award-winning book, Becoming All Things
Here’s a wild thought: What if, instead of spewing hate (re: politics), your words created environments of learning and growing? While it’s easy to just rant or rage about wherever is happening in the world (violence, war, injustice), I’ve got a hot & spicy tip for you that’s going to make your words so much more impactful. Ask yourself: Do my words serve me or others? ⬆️read that again⬆️ Because when we show up online or in-person to basically emotionally vomit our words about how angry we are and all the things we think are wrong…our words usually only serve ourselves. That doesn’t mean we can’t show up honestly and authentically online. But it does mean we can choose instead to organize our words in gracious containers, if you will. ✨We express a concern & we invite others to share how they’re feeling ✨We offer a nuanced thought (where we show our understanding of both sides) & then explain why we lean one way over the other ✨We talk about why an issue is important to us & genuinely invite others to ask us questions (that we take the time to graciously respond to) The world is a hot mess. No one is denying that. But you have a choice to either step into the mess and do some good or just add to the raging noise. It’s your choice. So, how are you going to show up today? #politics #news #educate #educateyourself #teachertips #teacherstrategies #teachersofinstagram ##culture #culturallearning #culturalactivities #classroom #cultural #thoughtfulness #classroommanagement #happyclassrooms #seasonedwithgrace #bethechange #inspiration #teachersfollowteachers #socialjusticeeducation #diversity #dei #socialjusticeeducator #diversityandinclusion #communication #communicationskills

Setting boundaries doesn't require aggression or blame. A simple discussion will suffice. Communicate with those involved, expressing that you've given your all, and now it's crucial to respect your boundaries. Open dialogue fosters understanding, making it a collaborative effort rather than a confrontational one. #boundariesmatter #respectyourself #selflove #boundariesinlove #relationshipwellness #relationshipadvice #buildinghappiness #marriageprep #joyfuljourney #relationshipgoals #love #understanding #joy #happiness #couplegoals #strongerrelationship #omgsupport #omgtribe #omgstepmom #omgtraining #omgcertificate #omgconsulting #omgglobalconsulting #omg #diyolakingsleyjames #adeolakingsleyjames

In a world where it feels like we're losing the ability to converse with those outside of our comfort zone or shared beliefs, here are 3 valuable lessons to bridge those gaps with people you encounter who don't see the world the way you do. 💡 Be open- Don't shy away when the uncomfortable conservations come up. Listen attentively, ask questions about why they believe what they believe, and try to look at them with the face of Christ. You'll gain a deeper understanding of others' perspectives while still fostering empathy. 💡 Seek common values- No matter how different your beliefs may be, you're bound to share some common values. Look for those shared principles that can serve as a bridge of connection. When we focus on our shared humanity and shared values, we can find common ground even amidst our differences. 💡 Be respectful- Healthy dialogue with difficult topics requires respect, patience, and humility. Be mindful of your language, tone, and body language during conversations. It's ok to disagree and to express why but remember to choose words that promote understanding and avoid judgmental remarks. What did we miss? How would you build bridges and foster understanding with others who view the world through a different lens? Our beliefs, including the self-destructive and judgemental ones, can be strangely familiar and "comfortable" so much so that we almost defend them when others attempt to challenge them. "But my life really is hopeless" "Even if I try this skill, it will make no difference" "They will never listen to me" "They don't care" "I really am a hopeless case. I can't get anything right" "He really is just an obnoxious person" "They will be better off without me" Let go of attachment to being right and be willing to have your beliefs challenged and examined. Become the researcher of your own mind and: 👍 experiment with your thoughts and beliefs 👍 actively look for contradictory evidence 👍 ask others what they think and accept their objective opinion 👍 consider what choices you'd be making if you were to adopt alternative/more helpful thoughts 👍 consider how your ways of relating to others would change if you let go of the conviction that nobody likes you. #dbt #mentalize #dbtskills #thoughts #thoughtoftheday #emotions #bpd
