As part of our staff retreat, the AME team had an enriching experience during our visit to the BRITANNIA MINE MUSEUM. We encourage everyone to visit this significant site and learn firsthand about its historical importance. We also had the pleasure of connecting with Austin Chandler, Director of the Squamish Nation and deepening our understanding of responsible resource management and community engagement on the land that we operate and explore on.

Restich: the social summit, convened by CREATE STREETS and Labour Together is a great slice through all kinds of activism in the field of social and physical regeneration. I am so pleased to join a session on the role of heritage, stitching and retrofit asking why do we have to look back to move forward? My thoughts… We HAVE to reign in sprawl, allow towns to become more themselves as they grow. And places don’t become themselves by accident. Yes, there are local materials but also a history of crazy characters. It was always tough to fund development and there are incredible stories of bankruptcy along the way. Those who glorified their home towns, delivering philanthropic projects, and responding to frequent changes in fashion, had great tenacity. It feels as if the last fifty years of building what -people-want, housebuilder architecture, is stuck in its own cul de sac. Houses feel accidental and placeless, not responding in anyway to the climate challenges and connectivity needed to make genuine neighbourhoods. We can build new places if they are dense and benefit from our instinctive and collective knowledge of how to live. Excited to join this discussion!

Keep thinking about this. If as we know from endless reports, that the cultural, creative and museums sectors are woefully unrepresentative as regards the spectrum of diversity, then how can these “leaders” reflect this country in all its glorious diversity.
In her maiden speech at the Science and Industry Museum, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy sets out her vision for unlocking growth and opportunity in the UK’s £170 billion culture, media and sport sectors to industry leaders from across the UK. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gF6KekC7

Are any buildings associated with "your people" on the National Register of Historic Places? To search the full list of NC properties on the list 1) Visit the website of the NC Historic Preservation Office at https://www.hpo.nc.gov/ (their new website address) 2) Click on "National Register of Historic Places" from the "Popular Topics" listing 3) Click on "Search NC Listings in the National Register of Historic Places" 4) Use the HPO Website Search Tool from this page to conduct global keyword and name searches across *most* of the state's National Register nomination PDFs. The second paragraph on the "NC Listings in the National Register of Historic Places" webpage has information about the Nomination packets and associated materials. A highlighted paragraph talks about using the official and approved nominations at the National NRHP listing, which may include more information. #FamilyHistory #NorthCarolina
We are pleased to announce that two districts and 15 individual properties across the state have been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The following properties were reviewed by the North Carolina National Register Advisory Committee and subsequently nominated by the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Officer and forwarded to the Keeper of the National Register for consideration for listing in the National Register. “North Carolina’s longstanding dedication to preserving its historical treasures echoes through the latest additions to the National Register of Historic Places,” said Reid Wilson, secretary of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. “By commemorating these landmarks, we retain our unique narrative, invigorate local economies, and celebrate the rich tapestry of our state’s history and culture.” Learn more about these historic places here: https://lnkd.in/ekzvkKZR

November is a special time when we come together to honor the rich tapestry of Native American heritage, culture, and contributions. As we mark National Native American Heritage Month, let's take a moment to celebrate and recognize the profound impact Native American communities have had on our nation's history and identity. National Native American Heritage Month also serves as a reminder of the challenges many Native American communities face today. As we celebrate their history, let's not forget to support initiatives that address issues like healthcare, education, and the promotion of cultural preservation. Here are some ways to get involved and show your support: - Explore Native American literature, art, and music. - Learn about the history and heritage of Native American tribes. - Attend local events and celebrations to immerse yourself in their culture. - Support Native American-owned businesses. - Get involved with organizations working to uplift Native American communities. Let's make this month a time of learning, appreciation, and solidarity. Join us in celebrating National Native American Heritage Month, and together, we can contribute to a more inclusive and equitable future. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #UNICO
