Imagine you are adding a new app to a well-used smartphone. The download is already very slow. Then you finally open the app. And realise it's utterly useless: not loading, bugs, you can’t find the content you are looking for. Unfortunately, this is what employees often think about today's leadership development programs, or trainings. The solution: updating your phone’s/people’s operating system first, to add the much needed "processing capacity". Someone on your team isn’t producing the right outcomes. You’re worried how that’s going to make you look as a leader, and how it will make your team look to the rest of the organization. In a situation like this, we may default into feeling hopeless as a leader.. However, all hope is not lost. Instead, when a team member isn't performing well, we want to take a moment to look inward.
