Great to be in Bonn as Observer for the @UNFCCC #SB60 sessions. Closely following discussions on Adaptation matters, including Finance and the New Quantified Goal on Climate Finance. @GCAdaptation continues to advocate for Climate Adaptation and Adaptation Finance through the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program #AAAP. Great to see that Parties insist that new financing must be provided in a way that does not exacerbate the debt burden of Developing Countries. #JuneClimateMeetings #COP29

Pleased to welcome #COP29 President-Designate Mukhtar Babayev to the OECD - OCDE today. Important exchange on #OECD work in support of globally more effective climate action - on carbon mitigation via the #IFCMA, on policies to strengthen adaptation and to secure the much needed boost in climate finance.

UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) will be co-hosting the Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate Change at #COP28. The focus of the meeting will be on accelerating local climate finance, with two key objectives: 1️⃣ To reinforce the importance of multi-level #climateaction to achieve the targets of the Paris Agreement; and 2️⃣To discuss how local governments can be better equipped to respond to the climate crisis. 👉 Register: https://lnkd.in/dSZmEk2f

While everyone is feeling the effects of climate change, in a conflict context, this is amplified. On the one hand, climate change and the resulting increased competition for scarce resources is a conflict driver, while at the same time people in conflict affected settings have less means to deal with climate change and build resilience. Out the countries most vulnerable to climate change, 70% are experiencing or at risk of conflict. Yet the distribution of climate finance is uneven, leaving many of the most exposed communities behind. At the policy level, COP 28 held a thematic day on relief, recovery and peace for the first time, which led to the launch of the UAE COP 28 Declaration on Climate, Relief, Recovery and Peace. COP28 is over, but the urgency of this issue continues. Featuring policy and climate experts from Search for Common ground, International Alert, International Crisis Group, and FPS Foreign Affairs, this COP28 EU side event shed light on these interlinkages, discuss progress and momentum on the topic at COP 28, and the way forward. The climate adaptation finance gap is massive, according to a report by the UN Environment Programme. "The modelled costs/finance needs are 10–18 times as much as current international public finance flows". good summary of the issues plaguing the #NCQG
Finance is a key priority for climate policy and global agreements. It is also a debated issue, with sharp disagreements between developed and developing countries. The April meeting in Colombia was meant to a step in the right direction towards a new #climatefinance goal in the build-up to #COP29. But negotiators failed to reach concrete agreements. It begs the question: why has progress towards the goal been so slow? Click here to read more: https://lnkd.in/e_vmeyqS

#YearinReview: Global leaders gathered for the #COP28 Adaptation Finance Summit for Africa expressed alarm that the global climate crisis was putting unprecedented strain on the world’s most climate-vulnerable continent. The Summit’s communique said that climate adaptation finance could still enable the continent to chart a resilient course, if rapidly scaled-up financial support in line with UN promises came behind key regional programs, in particular the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program #AAAP, the world’s largest climate adaptation financing program.
