The current scientific system causes many resources to be wasted. One of them is the time and effort spent on #PeerReview which is locked behind the closed door... #PeerReview is an important scientific activity. Let's make it open! Posting reviews can help young researchers learn what the process looks like. Open #PeerReview can also help in reducing redundant reviewing efforts (e.g. when a paper was rejected in one journal and it again goes through #PeerReview in the next journal). It can help to catalyze open discussion about science and give a context to readers. All those opportunities are wasted when the readers don't have access to read the reviewer's comments. It’s easy to forget the “why” when you’re mired in the day to day… Especially when you’re growing and that day to day gets busier than ever. So it’s important to re-sync, and remember why you’re there and doing what you’re doing. For Excedr, the core of it is that we’re here to help the life sciences community. Our little piece of that is helping them equip their labs more easily. In addition to our YKO, where the first order of business is always re-syncing on that mission, we recently had a deal that also put that value front and center. It wasn’t a straightforward deal, and it might have been easy to say “no” to it. But there was also a way to make it work, if we were willing to alter some things and work with the situation at hand. Which is what we did. It was a great reminder of how we operate at the core. At the end of the day, Excedr was founded to make it easier for labs to get the equipment they needed. There’s nothing like putting it into practice to reinforce those values. I appreciate the clients who give us the opportunity to remember that every day. #biotechnology #lifesciences #finance #culture
