Most event organizers have a competitor-first approach. But the research phase of your event strategy isn’t just about looking at competing events. Sure, competitor research is important. You want to nail down the best data and agenda. But you shouldn’t forget about the people you’re organizing the event for – your attendees and sponsors. So, look at the research phase in 3 buckets: 👉 Stakeholders Get answers to the below questions: - What are their needs? - What type of event do they respond to? - What feedback did you get from your previous events? 👉 Competitors Two reasons to review competitors are: - Checking for any clashes in agenda or dates - Identifying what you could do better 👉 Innovation You don't have to rehaul your entire event for this but you do need some element of differentiation in comparison with previous editions. Start by reflecting on: - How can you recreate what your attendees found exciting? - How can you find inspiration from other industries? - How can you apply general trends to your event? Now you have all the tools to bring your next event to new heights. P.S. Clare Forestier launched a podcast today called 'Not the same as last year.'
