In this week's episode, I step outside my comfort zone (and into the wayback machine to my own collegiate days) to talk about events across the university experience. Imagine orchestrating an event that seamlessly unites incoming students, energetic parents, and potential alumni. Multi-generational but all focused on creating lifelong school spirit! Sam Bethel of the University of San Francisco knows exactly how to make it happen. He’s the Digital Communications Manager for USF and is here to share what makes a university event successful. He integrates tech into event planning and a centralized approach across all school departments and offices to ensure a smooth and organized event that is bound to give the students and alumni of USF a good time. That's the power of strategic event tech and a unified approach. Sam uses the Jesuit principle of "Cura Personalis," or care for the whole person, to shape their events. It's not just about logistics; it's about creating meaningful, lifelong connections. Whether you're organizing a university orientation or the next big corporate shindig, the principles we discuss are universal and can transform your view of event planning. Connector/Communicator/Collaborator. I assist #EventProfs in discovering the best Event Tech/Event Design for their attendees and events.
Event Tip 👉 Try before you buy. Recently I did a shout-out to several industry associations inviting them to speak to my Event Management Students at #ConestogaCollege. The goal, to share the benefits and features of getting involved in Industry Associations. Thanks to all who responded 😊 Investment in you is important. Students have invested in themselves in these post-secondary programs to hit the ground running upon graduation, which for many is not far off, April is on the horizon 🗓 Investing in associations to stay on top of trends, networking, and continuing with professional development is also important. With so many choices out there, why not invite students (or new folks) to try before they buy? Perhaps offer an upcoming event at a reduced rate and curate the experience where they are teamed up with a current member and introduced to others. Allow them to purchase the membership while there. Make it easy, enjoyable, and worth it. Think back to your first industry association event. What was it like? 🤔 I recall mine and it wasn’t great. I was anxious, knew no one, wanted to hide in the corner and no one spoke to me. Convincing myself to attend again was rough. Part of success is ensuring new folks are joining us and pushing the industry forward with new ideas and energy. How will you help? 🤝 #EventTips #TuesdayTips #EventDesign #Production #AVTweeps #AV #EventProfs #EventMarketing #MeetingPlanner #LiveEvents

In-person meetings are back! Well, yes and no. The event landscape continues to shift since everything went virtual in 2020, and that attendance bump you experienced over the last year or two may not last. Participants are questioning the value of traveling and exhibitors and sponsors are demanding more return on their investment. Everyone is craving a better experience than the same old breakout panels and exhibit programs we’ve served up for years. During this session, you’ll hear highlights of research that outlines young professionals’ emerging demands and expectations. You’ll also discover fresh approaches to crafting a year-round engagement strategy that not only meets people where they are but doesn’t break your budget or stress out your staff. Get ready to redefine what it means to host an unforgettable event! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gSZr6ZF4

Start planning your school's end-of-year events with clear goals. Reflect on whether you want to celebrate student achievements, build community, and have fun. This understanding is key to organizing an event that fits your purpose. Involve students and teachers in the planning for a sense of ownership and relevance. Consider forming a student-led committee or using surveys to gather input. End-of-year events can be different things, depending on what your school likes and what you have available. Here are some choices: a. Awards Ceremony: Give out awards to celebrate great achievements in and out of class. Think about making special awards to honor all sorts of skills and efforts. b. Talent Show: Let students show off their skills in a talent show. It's a fun way for them to share their talents and entertain everyone. c. Field Day: Organize a day with outdoor games, sports, and activities that build teamwork. It's good for fitness, friendship, and fair competition. d. Graduation Ceremony: If you have students graduating, put together a ceremony to celebrate this big step. Make it serious but joyful, with speeches, diplomas, and the traditional caps and gowns.
