After reading this article, it is safe to say that the head injury protocols have come a long way from where it was when these players were playing. The RFL have done everything possible to ensure that players who suffer with head injuries get the relevant and correct treatment to minimise the post-contact injuries. The new protocols are definitely something that has helped take the sport further for current and future players. Legally, The RFL could arguably have done more in the current buildup to avoid such legal steps taken, however it is hard to judge what more they could have done at the time of these players’ careers, as we have continuously had more advances in technology and sports science, not just in rugby but across all sports. For younger participants of the sport, it needs to be stressed that coaches must help players with the correct techniques at a young age, so that those that go on to professional and elite levels, they become ambassadors for the sport and have further positive influences on the sport. https://lnkd.in/enXsd6WN

September 27th is Rowan's Law Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of concussion safety in sports. It is named after Rowan Stringer, a young Ontarian who tragically passed away in 2013 due to a head injury sustained during a rugby match. Rowan's Law was subsequently enacted in Ontario to improve the recognition and management of concussions in amateur sports. To learn about the signs and symptoms of concussion: - Use the free Toolkit from Ophea here: https://bit.ly/3POHrPp - Review the concussion awareness resources from ExploreON | ExplorezON here: https://bit.ly/3t60QTj #RowansLaw #HitStopSit #ConcussionSafety

Freelance Cricket Journalism/Broadcaster/Commentator - freelance commentator for BBC London, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club and ECB.
Wel that wraps up another domestic season. Thanks to all fans from Glos and our opposition who have got involved, sent us emails, baked us cake, challenged us, made us smile or just said hello. The things you need to get by in this job are; 1. Knowledge. An in depth knowledge of the game, the county scene and 'to get your head around new players' on the circuit. A knowledge of history. 2. Research. Hours are spent when not behind the mic on the opposition. Try seeing which player it is from 3 floors up and 150 yards away without a shirt number. 3. A sense of humour. People in effect are investing their time in you. Make it fun. 4. Use of voice. Add excitement, add tension, add drama. 5. Colleagues. Without the staff at Glos or my production team, it would be nothing. Your co-commentator is crucial. 6. Luck. Perhaps the most important? Don't try 6 without 1 though.
