Sweat... in a can 🤔 I experienced Pocari Sweat on a recent trip to Asia. Not an ailment, but rather a popular Ion sports drink from Japan. Its creator was inspired after seeing a doctor drink an IV solution to rehydrate. That's a great back story! And the drink itself delivers on taste, hydration and refreshment. But, name appeal of 'Sweat' for a Western/Anglo market must have been a real barrier to broader global expansion since its launch in 1980. An interesting case study in the battle between brand consistency and the potential need for local customisation.

One of my favourite things about appreciating creativity from around the world is seeing the different cultural nuances that inform what becomes “the message.” It’s fascinating to see that there are always multiple ways to approach a topic. I'm watching this award-winning spot again and thinking "No they did NOT." Weird? Maybe. Memorable? Definitely!
