Dognosis was one of the Phase1 winners of the University of Chicago's Market Shaping Accelerator (MSA)! The MSA was launched at the International Monetary Fund HQ and is directed by Nobel Laureates and other leading scholars at UChicago and beyond. They called for proposals designing pull mechanisms for improving biosecurity, i.e. policies incentivising the development of technologies that would blunt the effect of future pandemics.
Our proposal outlined a plan to spur the innovation and deployment of volatolomics (olfaction-based tech including dogs, e-noses and hybrid systems) to create an early-pandemic detection system.
Being a winner of Phase1 came with a nice cash prize, but more importantly, comes with the possibility of working with the MSA team in Phase2 on fleshing out and drafting contracts to potentially win millions of dollars that could then unlock billions in value. They're some wonderful and well established names/orgs in the fray, so we're keeping our expectations grounded, but perhaps some underdogs will get a shot as well ;)
Shout-out to to Aurojeet Misra for working on this with me, and thanks to Andreas Mershin, Nikhil Lal, Karolina M. Sulich, Jasper Götting, J. Vivian Belenky and Jacob Swett for insightful conversations on volatolomics and biosecurity.
Onwards and upwards,
Akash
