Thinking minds at work. Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute experts Fenella Beynon and Talia Salzmann and #Kosovo teams got together in Prishtina today to explore further steps to integrate digital tools for better management of non-communicable diseases conditions. We are brainstorming human-centered design approaches that can result in solutions and tools which take into consideration the needs of patients and community members for better care from the health service providers. #digitalhealth #patientengagement #ActOnNCDs

Really proud of being a part of a mission driven team, with decades of experience in public health and interoperability, on the Multi-Drug Resistant Organism (MDRO) project! Our goal is to improve communications between acute care hospitals, long-term acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and local public health agencies, providing near real-time updates for patients who test positive for MDROs. The CDC estimates that 2 million Americans become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics each year, and 23,000 people die from these infections. Recent research showed prevalence of MDROs was 65% in nursing homes and 80% in long-term acute care facilities. #MDRO #publichealth https://lnkd.in/gFeMGiqv

This is great...better EHRs for everyone I say. SDOHs are so important. But, in supporting those with instable housing and those experiencing homelessness, it would be great to see this effort and The Gravity Project (https://lnkd.in/gETCkVsa) include housing and/or housing status in the next generation EHR development. As I read it, housing status is not overtly included, see cut/paste of what is in this $4.4 M grant: "The initiative will focus on data standards for a number of critical social risk domains, which may include some or all of the following: neighborhood safety access to green space food access adverse childhood experiences/toxic stress weathering minority strain immigration status history of incarceration Other domains are in the planning phases."
LOINC® and Health Data Standards (LHDS) at Regenstrief Institute received a $4.4 million grant from the Regenstrief Foundation to support expansion of work on a global initiative to categorize and standardize social determinants of health information into electronic health records, an ambitious project to integrate social needs data into clinical care to more effectively address health inequities. The new four-year project will be led by LHDS at Regenstrief and Health Level Seven® (HL7®) International's Gravity Project, which has been named in a White House report as the recognized source for nationally required SDOH data elements. https://lnkd.in/g2kUk6Yu https://www.hl7.org/ https://lnkd.in/dF6SgJb
