Firms are growing their associate ranks by 2.7% per year as the market normalizes post-pandemic, with about 10,000 new associates added to NLJ 500 firms since 2018, the National Law Journal reported. With the costs of recruiting, onboarding and training a new associate estimated at approximately $400,000, that group of new associates could reflect approximately $4 billion in training and recruiting costs across the top 500 firms. 💵😲 AltaClaro works with law firms' internal professional development teams to reduce the time and cost of training new associates. Our team can assess your current training spend-per-associate and discuss ways to reduce this number. https://hubs.ly/Q02DJ3TN0

It’s been a great end to a busy year! Being promoted is of course a fabulous feeling, but there is more feeling behind this promotion than people will realise. A number of years ago I was surrounded by some super strong fabulously talented lawyers, a number of whom were women. I’ll never forget one conversation that was had about career progression in law. In summary I was told a choice needed to be made, have your kids and be a hands on mum or progress your legal career…”you can’t have it all”. I’m not going to lie - I simply accepted what I was being told. All that studying, all that hard work, but at the time I really wanted a family and to be present. So…I naturally simply thought to myself, family it is then. Fast forward a number of years, a lot has changed. I now have two children. I do drop offs, pick ups and put them to sleep (with the help of my pretty awesome husband)! The one other fundamental thing that has also changed is my view of women working in law and their progression. I couldn’t disagree more with the comment that was made to me years ago! I’m not going to say it’s easy, it’s pretty tough (and at times ridiculously tiring) - but I think there are ways you can try to have it all and it work out. I’m lucky that I have a supportive husband and we of course need to rely on childcare too - but I am also extremely lucky to have found Higgs LLP. It’s a firm that sees family as a benefit rather than a hindrance, we support each other inside and outside of work and I am surrounded by amazingly talented lawyers (men and women) who fully support and are themselves embracing the work/life balance challenge (and are doing so successfully). So for anyone out there thinking that a choice has to be made, it really doesn’t! #parents #worklifebalance #promotion #supportiveworkplace #HiggsLLP
We are thrilled to announce the well-deserved promotions of three exceptional lawyers who have demonstrated unwavering commitment, expertise and an outstanding contribution to Higgs! Laura Pearson, a first-class Commercial lawyer will be promoted to Principal Associate, Aman Sahota-Dhatt, an experienced Commercial Property lawyer has been appointed Legal Director and Lauren Hartigan-Pritchard who heads up the firm’s Restructuring and Insolvency team has been made a Partner. Congratulations all!👏 Read more - https://bit.ly/489KhVo #ThisIsHiggs #Promotions #Lawyers #Congratulations

Snell & Wilmer placed in the top 20 of the AmLaw Midlevel Associates Satisfaction Survey. This year, we are ranked #17. The AmLaw survey examines twelve aspects of associate job satisfaction. Highly marked areas for the firm included relationships among associates and between partners and associates, challenging and fulfilling work, management transparency, meaningful opportunities and desire for partnership, balanced workloads, and technology investments. Moreover, the firm had a remarkable 96.8% survey participation rate by our midlevel associates – more than double the average of other law firm participation of 48%. I think this says a lot about the firm I've called home from day one. https://lnkd.in/gnPdDCXm

These statistics to me indicate that law firms have still not moved away from the traditional single client partner relationship with key clients. If CRM programs were really working, then partners would be far less able to promise a 'book of business' to hiring firms. Of course, not all laterals move with a book, but I would imagine it's still a substantial proportion. The financial risk of not broadening and deepening client relationships is obvious. It appears that most law firms have still not got to grips with a fundamental element of managing client relationships successfully.
